Fake pimp from ACORN videos tries to 'punk' CNN correspondent
Source: CNN

Lusby, Maryland (CNN) -- A conservative activist known for making undercover videos plotted to embarrass a CNN correspondent by recording a meeting on hidden cameras aboard a floating "palace of pleasure" and making sexually suggestive comments, e-mails and a planning document show.

James O'Keefe, best known for hitting the community organizing group ACORN with an undercover video sting, hoped to get CNN Investigative Correspondent Abbie Boudreau onto a boat filled with sexually explicit props and then record the session, those documents show.

The plan apparently was thwarted after Boudreau was warned minutes before it was supposed to happen.

"I never intended to become part of the story," Boudreau said. "But things suddenly took a very strange turn."

...

CNN was forwarded an e-mail, sent from O'Keefe's e-mail address, to the executive director of Project Veritas, Izzy Santa; and two conservative activists, Ben Wetmore of New Orleans and Jonathon Burns of St. Louis, Missouri, dated after the call with Boudreau.

"Getting Closer," the e-mail states. "Audio attached conversation with Abbie. What do you think of her reaction guys. She said she could do it Monday, Tuesday. Ben, you think I could get her on the boat?"

but I was actually watching CNN, "Rick's List" or something like that, wherein they brought this story to light. In the process, Rick stated emphatically and more than once, that ACORN was ruined by this guy's "punks" and that they were innocent of the charges. He said that it was this sleazebag that had set them up.

118. GOOD POINT ABOVE
It always infuriates me that, in the national sense of awareness of current events; most AMERICAN PEOPLE are still of the understanding that ACORN is guilty and corrupt and vote stealing and pimp business consulting, but in the END, ACORN WAS ABSOLVED OF ALL CHARGES!

THIS MISLEADING PROPAGANDA FROM THE LIKES OF THIS PUNK HAS TAKEN OUT YET ANOTHER ORGANIZATION THAT helped poor and underprivileged people find their way into participating in their own government! And get help navigating the predatory systems like those liars loan mortgages that victimized their very customers into bankruptcy or foreclosure? An organization who's purpose was merely to help the under privileged to a happier and more rewarding life.

Consider it the equivalent of somehow consigning DU to utter non-existent oblivion. "They" want to take out all things with even an aroma of progressivism, and in this case, continued with this pernicious, un-American effort at subverting speech one organization at a time!

What is the next progressive organization to be propagandized out of existence?

11. Two interesting side points from this
Now that he tried a smear campaign on CNN, CNN finally gets it about what was done to Acorn:

O'Keefe is best known for making a series of undercover videos inside ACORN offices around the country in 2009. The 40-year-old liberal group was crippled by scandal after O'Keefe and fellow activist Hannah Giles allegedly solicited advice from ACORN workers on setting up a brothel and evading taxes.
The videos led to some of the employees being fired and contributed to the disbanding of ACORN, which advocated for low- and middle-income and worked to register voters.
But prosecutors in New York and California eventually found no evidence of wrongdoing by the group, and the California probe found the videos had been heavily and selectively edited.

I'd like to know the name of the financial donor mentioned as someone one Santa contacted about this here:
The day of the meeting, she wrote to someone she described as a financial donor to Project Veritas. She would not identify the individual.

Maybe that's why they're keeping her on the payroll after this happened. She knows at least one name of the people behind this band of miscreants.

ACORN Foe James O'Keefe Sought to Embarrass CNN's Abbie Boudreau on Porn-Strewn "Palace of Pleasure" Boat

It's hard to even know where to start with this one: James O'Keefe, the conservative filmmaker whose undercover videos essentially destroyed community organizing group ACORN, apparently attempted to lure CNN Correspondent Abbie Boudreau onto a boat potentially strewn with dildos and pornography, where he planned to faux-seduce her as hidden cameras filmed the whole thing.

Yes, you read that right.

CNN lays out the story http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/09/29/okeefe.cnn.prank/">here, and Boudreau herself explains what happened in the video below. Here's what happened: CNN had been working on a documentary about young conservative activists, O'Keefe among them; On August 10th, O'Keefe requested a private meeting with Boudreau, suggesting that he just wanted to talk because he was uncomfortable "about letting people into my sort of inner sanctum."

O'Keefe recorded the call without telling Boudreau, and emailed it to friends and colleagues. (It ultimately ended up in CNN's hands.) In the email, he said he was "getting closer" to getting to Boudreau and asked one colleague if "you think I could get her on the boat." Boudreau said later she had understood that she would be meeting with O'Keefe in his office.

When Boudreau showed up for the meeting in Maryland a week later, she was met by Izzy Santa, the executive director of O'Keefe's group, Project Veritas. A visibly nervous Santa asked to speak to Boudreau in the CNN correspondent's rented car, where Santa revealed that O'Keefe was attempting to set her up.

119. responsibility for destroying ACORN?
ACORN was not destroyed by O'Keefe singlehandedly. The biased-and-abysmal-and-transcriptional-report-memes-as-real-news-knowingly-lie-have-an-agenda-for-the-wealthy-elites-to-propagandize-to-get-people-to-vote-against-their-own-best-interests MSM also contributed to the unjust result or ACORN disbanding. IF this issue was treated to real bona fide JOURNALISM instead of slanted and biased agenda driven propaganda, ACORN may still be around.

And the just still loose and the bullies still win.

America is being bullied into middle ages serfdom and constant fear to serve the frail needs of the powerful and greedy. Just what the founding fathers had in mind.

But for de-funding, ACORN would still have been in business when it vindicated itself, and O'Keefe would have been even more of a laughingstock than he is. As it is, he's a folk hero to Republicans and ACORN could not afford to keep operating.

100. What "bugging equipment" was found? As I recall what Senator
Landrieu's staff and the FBI reported - the jerks told them that there was problems with constituents were trying to call but their phone system had outages. What they did try to do - their plan was to record the staff doing little or nothing, thus proving that the Senator's staff was ducking calls critical of the Senator. The plan didn't work since the phones weren't really out and the staff didn't follow his scenario. There wasn't any wiretap equipment and the recording device was his cell phone. That's why there weren't any wiretap/bugging charges. If they had be caught with wiretap equipment, Holder would have them rotting in GITMO.

105. Conservative reaction is mixed.
Via Media Matters:

Brent Bozell, founder of the conservative MRC, said:

The MRC unequivocally denounces James O’Keefe for his attempted assault on CNN. It isn’t just childish and immature; it’s ugly, dishonest and filthy. There is no place in the conservative movement for this type of behavior and that’s exactly what I warned about in a commentary piece I submitted to CNN.com just two days ago.

Meanwhile, MRC analysis director Tim Graham posted some tweets attacking the CNN journalist.

Some of the Freepers were smart enough to say "not cool" to O'Keefe, but overall yea crickets and ACORN Derangement abound.

Examples of this are voyeurism (when someone watches private sexual acts), exhibitionism (when someone exposes him/herself in public), incest (sexual contact between family members), and sexual harassment. It can happen in different situations: in the home by someone you know, on a date, or by a stranger in an isolated place."

He is?????

His 2 scams have been completely debunked and exposed, because they were lame.

The defunding of ACORN is only something he played a small role in. It was done by the GOP and completely aided by the cowardly Dems. He didn't make his accusation stick, the GOP used it (before it could be scrutinized) on top of a lot of other fake ACORN accusations and the Dems quaked in their pink booties and allowed it to happen before they knew anything about the scam. If it had been up to him, it would have gone nowhere.

He's about as "good at it" as a sophomore. Not very.

57. The best part about this story is that it's NOT just about sleazy little O'Keefe...
...although, of course, he is the juicy seasoning in the dish.

But the real meat is revealed if you go to the CNN article and not only read it, but follow the internal links to the document that was leaked to CNN and to Boudreau's blog on the incident.

It's clear that this is not just O'Keefe, this is a whole node of the well-financed RW attempt to bring down democracy in favor of some weird corporate fascist pseudo-democracy. This "Project Veritas" operation includes several of the sleazy bottom feeders we all know and despise from the ACORN attack, but it's also just the tip of a larger iceberg-- read the bits about how PV Exec Director, Izzy Santa, protested to one of the PV "donors" about this action because she thought it would backfire on the group. And then she was the one who blew it to Boudreau.

And then read the document that was excerpted here: http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2010/09/specials/cnn.caper/index.html, where it becomes clear that this is part of a crazy, deluded, but meta-level strategy to spread even more chaos and stupidity through the media and remove any capacity that media sources might have to actually report facts credibly (if they ever want to.)

This is surreal.

And yes, the fact that O'Keefe is involved has helped generate some media hype about it, but it's that document that is the real story here.

amazedly,
Bright

  • Christian "Rock"... ALL of it.
  • The Nuge
  • Toby Keith
  • Ben Stein
  • Glenn Beck's "fiction"
  • That kid from Saved By The Bell who thinks bananas disprove evolution
  • Stephen Baldwin

...etc. The list goes on. The pinched, retentive, narrow and just plain stupid outlook that leads people to vote Republican is totally counterproductive to any sort of creative endeavour. Right-wingers get so mad about liberal musicians not just because the liberal musicians are outspoken about their liberal politics, but because the liberal musicians (Springsteen, U2, R.E.M., Pearl Jam, John Fogerty, etc. etc.) are the GOOD, TALENTED musicians. The ones on the right suck, pure and simple.

What you have here with James O'Keefe is a fucking goober who wants to be Sacha Baron Cohen, but has no clue as to what is actually funny, much less how to pull something like that off. Even his "Pimp" gig was fucking retarded, and the only other thing he tried to pull got him arrested.

Really, Mr. Baron Cohen needs to create a new character for the express purpose of "punking" James O'Keefe IMHO. That would be rich.

    113. Interesting points
I had for a long time thought that there were just different cultures and both had musicians and other creative people that they liked - and I simply knew and liked ours better. But, when I monitor right wing radio, it is jarring that between their rants, you hear bits of music - and it is mostly the music of liberal musicians.

Here in NJ, Christie and some Republicans were disappointed that after Christie very publicly made it clear he wanted Bruce Springsteen to play at his inaugural ball. Christie liked him well enough that he had attended far over 100 of his concerts and wrote an op-ed for his county's local paper taking Springsteen to task for having a concert for Kerry in 2004 - one of the few in NJ that Christie missed, fearing he would be "shown on the jumbotron". You wonder if he ever listened to the lyrics - or if he ever read the words that Springsteen spoke in introducing Senator Kerry in Madison, WI. If he had, he might have realized that there was NO chance that Springsteen would play for him - he's against everything he stands for. Christie made due with an E street cover band - that same county paper had photos of Christie singing with the band - that unfortunately did make the electronic version of the paper.

But, O'Keefe is not just an example of someone with a lack of creative skills. He is someone who is so convinced of his side's moral right that he feels justified in violating every social, moral and ethic societal value to further his goals. What is stunning is the support that he has received from Conservative media and some of their powers that be. I think the one punked by this episode will be O'Keefe, because buoyed by not only not being held accountable for his earlier transgressions but being honored by the right, I think he went to far on this one.

In his first transgression, he targeted ACORN, and organization that was liberal, mostly minority and dedicated to helping the poor with things like voting - an easy target to demonize by the right. The second had the cover - unbelievable as it was - that they were monitoring why the Senator's office did not respond to citizens. Here, he was clearly targeting a very beautiful, polite, articulate reporter with a disgusting and terrifying sleazy attack. That it was written in a pathetic way is the least of his problems - it exposes many glaring deficits in his character and that should be clear even to those on the right who lionized him when he attacked ACORN.

    115. Answers
"how is he making a living?"

By being a useful tool for people who have a lot of money.

    "Does he have a job?"

    Yes. Useful tool.

"Is somebody paying him to be a moron?"

    Yep.

"Why the hell is he making a music video and who would want to see it anyway?"

Because he's an desperate for attention and an egomaniac.

"Isn't he on some kind of parole and did he violate parole?"

Yes, and probably. If he's convicted of violating MD's wiretap laws (which he appears to have done), then that would be a parole violation. However, that wiretap conviction would be a larger crime than violating parole on his misdemeanor plea bargain.

"Why is he not being dragged back to court?"

Because this just happened, and in non-violent cases they tend to investigate before arresting the suspect. The assumption is that nobody is in mortal danger by leaving the moran out on the streets.

"Why would CNN want to so a story on this moron?"

Because they're doing a documentary on young conservative activists. That's actually a good thing - the more people learn about these freaks, the easier it is to marginalize them.

    122. Where to begin?
1/ People need to stop dignifying this fool with terms like "activist" and "journalist. Ghandi, MLK, Jr. and Saul Alinsky were activists. Walter Cronkite and Edward R. Murrow were journalists. This bumbling, self-important attention seeker is a nothing more than a dumbass.

2/ No one has proven he's a fake pimp.

3/ Without hearing from ACORN, a Democratic Congress hastily enacted an unconstitutionallaw introduced by Republicans to destroy a non-partisan organization whose work was to register people in poor neighborhoods to vote, on the basis of a heavily doctored video. ACORN later proved its innocence, but went out of business, due to Congressional de-funding.

Republicans are thought to have targeted ACORN because Republicans believe that the people ACORN registers are more likely to end up voting Democratic than they are to end up voting Republican (if indeed they end up voting at all). What were the reasons of the Democrats in Congress for acting so precipitously (and unconstitutionally), though?
