Obama: Republicans Haven't Been Honest
Source: CBS News/AP

In Iowa, President Takes Tough Questions and Defends His Economic Policies

(AP) President Barack Obama appealed to Midwestern voters to keep Democrats in power in Congress, telling a group in Iowa on Wednesday that the Republican Party has been dishonest about what needs to be done to revive the economy.

Obama has been on a four-state tour this week to try to fire up Democratic voters to avoid what increasingly looks to be a Republican takeover in the House of Representatives and, perhaps, the Senate in Nov. 2 elections.

...

Obama, addressing about 70 voters in a grassy backyard in Des Moines, defended his efforts to improve the economy.

"We can't pretend that there are shortcuts," he said.

"When you look at the choice we face in this election coming up," Obama said, "the other side, what it's really offering is the same policies that from 2001 to 2009 put off hard problems and didn't really speak honestly to the American people about how we're gonna get this country on track over the long term."

5. can you back that up with facts?
I would love to see your proof. Maybe you are correct and maybe not, maybe these people have internet access and are very informed. I think you might be stereotyping a bit maybe?

6. No, I am just assuming. Some may be DU'ers, I live in Iowa and I am a DU'er

However even I don't respond well to a DU style rant in a situation like that.

At any rate, you still have to consider the audience before trashing Obama. He knows how to reach people,

It just seems weird to me that DU'ers want to focus on one word or so to trash Obama. This is not an isolated case.

Honestly I don't see what is so "wrong" about this quote:

""When you look at the choice we face in this election coming up," Obama said, "the other side, what it's really offering is the same policies that from 2001 to 2009 put off hard problems and didn't really speak honestly to the American people about how we're gonna get this country on track over the long term."

Yet some people just want to respond with snark and act like Obama is an idiot for "stating the obvious."

14. My Dem rep will probably win his race, he is a good guy. However, Grassley is ahead
of Roxanne Conlin. His ads are of course taking credit for things in the healthcare bill he voted against.

16. Iowans tend to be very well educated compared to the national
average. They have good schools and are hardworking people in general. Don't equate them with people in other states.

Civility is a big thing here too.

I have liberal friends who won't watch Olbermann because he is too "angry' - the Special Comments really alienated them.

Here's what Obama said:

""When you look at the choice we face in this election coming up," Obama said, "the other side, what it's really offering is the same policies that from 2001 to 2009 put off hard problems and didn't really speak honestly to the American people about how we're gonna get this country on track over the long term."

I don't understand the need for some DU'ers to trash him for saying that,

9. Thank you for saying it, Mr. President
Now, start acting like you know it and believe it. You are dealing with fundamentally dishonest people. You can't negotiate with them, you can't bargain with them, because they are fundamentally dishonest. Internalize that, learn it, live it. Until the Republicans can demonstrate a change in their behavior, treat them as you would any other bunch of dishonest creeps. I for one would greatly appreciate it.
