Massive Fisher Price Recall: More Than 10M Toys
Source: ABC News

More than 10 million children's toys have been recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the toys' manufacturer Fisher Price, the CPSC announced today.

The toy giant has recalled toys -- including tricycles and play places -- citing potential dangers from falling onto certain protruding parts and choking hazards from small parts.

"Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed," the CPSC said in a statement. Here's the list of products being recalled in the U.S.:

- About 7 million Fisher Price Trikes and Tough Trikes toddler tricycles
- About 950,000 Healthy Care, Easy Clean and Close to Me High Chairs
- About 100,000 Fisher-Price Little People Wheelies Stand 'n Play Rampway
- About 2.8 million Baby Playzone Crawl & Cruise Playground, Baby Playzone Crawl & Slide Arcade, Baby Gymnastics Play Wall, Ocean Wonders Kick & Crawl Aquarium (C3068 and H8094), 1-2-3 Tetherball, Bat & Score Goal.

1. Wow! How did all those things get by them on the drawing board? FP is a
name I've always trusted for kid things. Glad my guys are old enough now I don't have to go through all their stuff to see what's been recalled.

14. Personally I'd look at the item and make my own judgement.
How much of it's down to the same mindset that puts "For Adult Viewing Only" at the start of DVDs of old Sesame Street episodes?

As someone else noted. The lethality of some of the toys we played with as kids is legendary. At that age my playground was a petrol Station and a full engineering workshop out the back and most of the machinery there was WWII era, so safety guards were not exactly common. The rule of the day was "Not yours. Don't touch."

As I grew up we built cubby huts in old gold mines, made six foot long swivel guns powered by bike inner tubes to shoot annoying three year olds, did our bit for the ozone hole by exploding aerosol cans at the local tip, and disappeared on overnight trips into the bush. During the day, the rule was "Home by dark."

2. This wouldn't be a problem except that those damned baby-boomers
don't make very good grandpas in the wood and metal shop.

It's ALWAYS the baby-boomers fault if you look carefully enough, through jaded lenses.

:Sarcasm:

5. MY lenses are certainly jaded; enough already!
Fortunately (I guess) I don't have 'grands' yet!

And my uncle, who did wood-work, is many years gone, so plastics will have to do. ;-(

4. This is why you should vote
republican.

They would shut down the departments that cause these silly recalls.

6. When I was raising my children in 1970s and early 80s
I always trusted Fisher-Price.

Thanks, GOP (deregulation) and Corporations (that place profits above safety)!

We are talking about toys for innocents! Damn!

9. My 3 year old is pretty pissed at me today because I had to take
his tricycle away. I went online to get a replacement part, and according to the site it could be up to 12 weeks before we get the part...

Guess I'll be going to buy a new bike...

11. How much you wanna bet...
That somewhere on those toys you're going to find the words "Made in China"?

I agree, the design was probably made during the Bush years when Rove had them all convinced there was going to be a "permanent Rupublican majority", and they didn't have to be concerned with things like, oh I don't know...SAFETY. And while I'm speaking strictly for myself here, I've found that most of the stuff manufactured there is just plain crap. With no regulations, they pretty much do what they want until they're caught and made to change. Remember when Mattel Toys apologised to the Chinese government because the manufacturers there were using lead paint in the toys, and it was "embarrassing" to the government when we made such a fuss about it. And then of course, there was the poison in the dog food and toothpaste.

Hell, Dan Ackroyd probably could get someone over there to manufacture "Bag o' Cut Glass" for him. (OK, boomers...get ready to explain this reference to the "young'uns" here!)

12. My kid has the Wheelie Rampway
I'll let the wife know there's a recall notice.

Ah, just take away the purple and green car - gotcha. It's probably buried in the billions of toys that my son has all over the house... wish me luck :)

15. Pretty soon children will receive one toy: a soft, padded sphere too big to swallow.
Everything else is too dangerous.

They can affix it high on the wall, and the children can look at it.
