Linda McMahon: 'We Ought To Review' The Minimum Wage (does not know current minimum wage)
Source: Huffington Post

Linda McMahon, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Connecticut, suggested Thursday that the U.S. ought to take a second look at the federal minimum wage.

"The minimum wage now in our country, I think we've set that, so there are a lot of people have benefited from it in our country, but I think we ought to review how much it ought to be, and whether or not we ought to have increases in the minimum wage," McMahon said at a press conference.

After the event, "McMahon admitted she didn't know what the current minimum wage is or if any of her employees at World Wrestling Entertainment are paid it," CTNewsJunkie.com reported. McMahon was CEO of the WWE before launching her Senate campaign.

The minimum wage rose in 2009 to $7.25 per hour from $6.55 per hour, the first increase in a decade. Among workers paid an hourly wage, 980,000 earned the minimum wage in 2009, and 2.6 million earned less, according to the Department of Labor. Those groups together comprise 4.9 percent of all hourly workers.

I think we should review returning to FDR era tax rates on the top 2%.

I am sick, SICK and TIRED of all of these millionaires and billionaires, trying to
tell the vast majority of Americans what they will be permitted to earn.

These filthy rich pigs make me sick.

9. With an astronomical cost of living, to boot.
Here in Vegas the cost of living is probably just a little lower than back east, but you can barely rent a cracker box for less than $750 a month, not to mention the outlandish electric bills to run AC at anything less than sauna temperatures during our 7-month summer. Our minimum wage is the Federal minimum, though, and I know a lot of people who barely make over that here.

25. $750 a month? Yeah, not too much here in CT for that unless you want to live in a house apartment in
a city. I lived in Meriden, CT for $550 a month back in 2000 but it was a 3rd floor 1 bedroom apartment. The cost of living in CT is pretty high and I can't afford to live in the town I grew up in (house prices for a raised ranch...try $350,000). But I do love living here, the cost is worth it. We have 4 seasons, which is the best part!

5. How can you even comment on this issue
when you don't know what the minimum wage is? Next, they'll be saying we should review child labor laws and indentured servitude.

I wish people like this would somehow get trapped in Twilight Zone episode so they have some remote understanding what the poor and working class are facing on a daily basis.

Reminds me of the stories of when upper middle class and middle class workers flooded aid offices and food banks at the height of the recession wondering where all the free help and services they had been hearing about were only to discover that they would have to dispose of all their assets to qualify. "Wow, you have to be really, really poor to get any help."

23. Historical top rates
You can see a table of historical top marginal U.S. income tax rates here:

http://www.truthandpolitics.org/top-rates.php

Note that as with U.S. income tax in general, the top rate applies only to the income above the indicated breakpoint, not to one's overall income.

Abbreviated version with top rates prevailing during the majority of the term of office for a few selected presidents:

35% GW Bush and Obama
39.6% Clinton
50% Reagan
28-31% GHW Bush
70% Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter (higher some years)
91% Eisenhower and Kennedy

14. I agree!
My military/disability retirement is nowhere near enough to survive on, so I got a McJob while being a caregiver for my parents (both are disabled and in bad shape). Here's some brain-storming math: 7.25 an hour...times 40 hours a week (although I'm never allowed anything close to that) is 290...times 4 is 1160 a month...after taxes that's 835. How can someone live independently on 835 a month?

I live in "section 8" housing, and the rent is higher than that! Haven't included: payment for a used car...car insurance...gas money...groceries...misc. shopping...child support...electric bill, or water bill.

Whenever I come across a business/company that pays minimum wage...it makes me think...(blank) company actually wants to pay LESS than 7.25/hour...and are paying 7.25/hour only to avoid trouble with the law...no other reason.

8. I guess she doesn't go by the lunch room or the water cooler very often
it is printed in giant letters on a poster that every employer is required to post.

BTW- this is the first time ever that a raise in the minimum wage has NOT raised income across the board. Yeah we the world we live in right now is so NOT capitalism in any way shape or form.

12. We also ought to review how some uneducated idiot can make billions off an expectacle
involving greased steroid heads perform a synchronized dance on a ring.

Traveling circus managers' salaries should be capped at the hundred thousand mark max, after all what is good for the goose should be good for the gander... right Mrs. McMahon?

29. Our values?
Look at what teachers are paid, and "they" are trying to bust the teachers Union so "they" can pay them even less.
Look at what the "Wresslers" (terrible actors on steroids) are paid...
WOW...

That sums her up well. Oh Linda, at one time I could actually stand you back when I used to watch wrestling. She is so incredibly greedy and annoying. I detest her ads, they make me want to throw something at the tv.

Everyone knows the minimum wage is $7.25... unless you live in Connecticut, D.C., Illinois or Nevada where it's $8.25, Washington ($8.55), Oregon ($8.40), Vermont ($8.06), California or MA ($8), Maine and New Mexico ($7.50), Michigan ($7.40) or Ohio ($7.30).
