Document shows Meg Whitman lying, attorney says
Source: San Francisco Chronicle

Shortly after Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman said today that she and her husband never knew her housekeeper was an undocumented immigrant, the Los Angeles attorney for Nicandra Diaz Santillan presented what she said were the Social Security documents that prove Whitman is lying.

Attorney Gloria Allred, in a news conference from her office that was streamed on TMZ.com, said the April 22, 2003 letter addressed to the Whitman's home in Atherton included a handwritten note - which Diaz said was that of Whitman's husband, Dr. Griffith Harsh - saying "Nicky, please check this. Thanks."

Harsh never asked about the letter again, Allred said. The Whitmans fired Diaz last year after she told them she was an undocumented immigrant.

Earlier, Whitman appeared in an hour-long press conference with Harsh standing at her side and repeatedly denied that either one of them had ever been contacted by the Social Security Administration about a "mismatched Social Security number for Diaz.

10. Ha ha ha ha!!!!
As a Californian, I have a serious stake in this race, and this woman is a mess! She reminds me of Imelda Marcos who, when confronted with the evidence of her closets full of shoes said, "Oh, everyone put their shoes there. The servants, everyone!"

After her pathetic performance during the debate (during which she lied), I feel confident that enough people will realize she's just a rich bitch who's trying to buy the office.

4. I don't get this
Edited on Thu Sep-30-10 05:24 PM by tularetom
They asked the housekeeper to respond to a letter saying her social security number wasn't valid?

And what, she kept the letter all these years and they never followed up on it?

Pretty stupid on their part but totally in character for a big shot executive like Whitman. That's how they handle everything - just scribble a little "handle this" note to one of "their people" and forget about it until the next crisis comes up. The art of delegation.

Looks like her poor management skills are gonna come back to bite Whitman right on her fat ass.

19. This pales compared to Carly
who sent how many jobs offshore and replaced how many American workers with H-1B's on shore at HP and bragged about it all.

16. Its really horrible that this 20-something (10 years ago)
Edited on Thu Sep-30-10 07:22 PM by Fresh_Start
illegal took horrible advantage of Meg by lying to her.

When Meg is Governor there's no chance that anyone would lie to her therefore her inability to assess someone's truthiness shouldn't be held against her because its not like that would be an important skill for someone in office.

:sarcasm:

23. Worked for Meg for 9-years and she didn't know she was illegal????

A maid performs very personal services for an employer and a normal employer should/would be interested in who, what, where of one who performs such service. A maid would have access to valuable personal info and belongings therefore a "smart," employer would know who she was giving access. Meg just thinks her wealth and power makes her above the same laws we mortals must abide by.

25. No Big Deal
Sadly, this won't mean a bit to most people who are voting. She lied and got caught, but she's still a Republican and the right-wing nutjobs and neocons will vote for her. Look at David Vitter. Gets coaught in a hooker scandal and the voters say...Big deal. This stuff drives me crazy, but it just shows how much people don't give a crap about things like this. I sure as hell wish they did. The funny thing is all the righties preach Jesus and honesty and all that bullshit, but when it comes time to pull the lever or place an X in a box, they can care less about the person's warts or their indiscretions. They're a Republican and that's all we care about. They're one of us they say. What a bunch of damned hypocrites these people are.
