University of Michigan student body president seeks restraining order against assistant state attorney general
By: David Jesse
UPDATED 3:55 PM
This story has been updated with a PDF of the PPO application and with details from a police report filed after Armstrong called the police on Shirvell.

University of Michigan student body President Christopher Armstrong is seeking a restraining order against an assistant state attorney general who has been publicly accusing Armstrong of pushing a radical homosexual agenda and showing up at places where Armstrong is, court records show.

Armstrong will go to court next week for a hearing on the personal protection order that would prohibit Andrew Shirvell from contacting him or coming near him.

Judge Nancy Francis denied Armstrong’s request to immediately issue the order, instead setting a hearing for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 4. Armstrong is asking that Shirvell be banned from appearing within Armstrong’s sight, from having e-mail or Facebook contact with Armstrong and to be prohibited from approaching “current or former university students or MSA reps.”

Shirvell, an assistant attorney general for the state of Michigan, has been writing a blog accusing Armstrong of pushing a radical homosexual agenda. In addition, he has shown up at various Michigan Student Assembly events to protest Armstrong, including holding signs attacking him that have a rainbow with a swastika drawn on it.

Sounds like a lovers' quarrel, doesn't it?

The AG's IN LOVE!.... and was rebuffed. :wow:

Besides, anyone who spends this much time over gays... especially on a college campus.... has personal issues.

Shirvell's sign, reading "Order of Angell = KKK", refers to the once-secret University of Michigan student organization formerly known as Michigamua.

especially with so many unions having been there -- ???

Working class people???

IMO, these religious fanatics get pushed into this insane behavior because they're

losing this battle on every front -- sure hope I'm right!!

Kinda like pro-life murderers??!!!

On the Thom Hartman show the other day, a woman involved in politics was relating how

the "pro-life" movement had been recruiting former drug addicts -- people who were getting

assistance with the drug I can't think of at the moment -- begins with an "M" ...

and hiring them to protest at the clinics! Don't know if she meant that this is still going

on???

Believe Cheney when he tells you the right wing creates the reality and the rest of us have

to deal with it!!

Everything is bought and paid for -- or the product of political violence -- stolen elections!

Do lunatics become Christians, or do Christians become lunatics?

Either way, why is he still on the payroll as a public servant?

21. Looks like Shirvell recognized that trying to continue homophia as a religious value ....
is a losing cause -- as he notes clearly ... this flag was about the acceptance

of homosexuality as a norm -- and not simply a request for tolerance.

It's really over -- and has long been over for organized patriarchal religion --

unless they get themselves a new army!

With W announcing a "Crusade" that may have already happened?

Shirvell, with that stiff neck and tightly pursed lips and holier-than-thou stare, I said to myself this guy is a majorly self-hating gay guy. There's a very fine line between love and hate, and something is telling me Shirvell is going back and forth over that line a hundred times a day.

He didn't just pick on gays -- he picked on Chris Armstrong. He's fixated on one guy.

32. This is somewhat frightening, especially if this order is issues-
He will then be in whats considered a danger zone. I think, if this order is levied against him(and I think it will be) that its very likely he will then be fired, and that he will then go on a real possible path towards unhinged violence.

As much as I dislike the attorney general this man works for I will say something- he is right in that he has little to no standing to fire him. Unless he engaged in these practices on the clock, which I suspect he has obviously been smart enough not to, he could not possibly hope to sack him without a reprisal of a lawsuit that would probably turn out in the stalkers favor.

Let's say some prayers for this kid, this could be real scary- as one poster said, this could end really badly. If I were him I'd seriously get a gun, a conceal carry license, and utilize it at all opportunities. Also, more locks on the house. And witches to cast protective magic. >_<

35. Since I was a former MI State employee and Union Representative....MIKE COX...DO YOUR DAMN JOB!!!
Edited on Thu Sep-30-10 11:12 PM by DimplesinMI
As a former state employee, I have seen MANY employees terminated over "Conduct Unbecoming of an Employee". For instance, if an employee engage in alcoholic beverage drinking off the job.

The next day, they come to work (not having 8 hours to burn the liquor out of their system) on mandatory overtime...(with Correctional Officers/State Police)...it can happen. Then the employee is selected for random drug & alcohol testing and they test positive.....terminated..."Conduct Unbecoming of a Employee" is one of the charges.

Is it beatable...sometimes, with union help. Either way it is 50/50 and the employee is out of a job, an minimum of 18 months or more.

The moral of the above story is that if the State of Michigan can terminate an employee for one to many drinks the night before...(while OFF work...mind you), it is amazing that stalker boy still has a job. Mike Cox needs to DO HIS JOB...and get this "employee" into a disciplinary hearing A.S.A.P.

Give this "person" the questionnaire (state employees know exactly what I mean), write the memorandum for the disciplinary hearing/investigation and place this idiot on STOP ORDER (he cannot serve in his position and would be on paid administrative leave) until AFTER the investigation/hearing.

Like I stated....as a former state employee and union representative, I saw MANY other former employees terminated for much less. If serious mental issues that is leading to harassment of another individual during non-working hours; does not fit into "Conduct Unbecoming", I do not know what does.

of Dan White.
He sounded calm on Anderson Cooper and not unhinged or raving--just calm...like someone who is following a path toward destruction--his or others. It's quite scary.

I keep reading folks talking about how strange and unprofessional he is acting--too me, he's giving me the creeps in a major way. I wish people in power in MI would take some action before this gets further out of hand.

53. What is wrong with this assistant AG guy?
A bunch of student groups here at U of M are going to be running an ad soon in the campus newspaper supporting Armstrong.

I hesitate to wander into controversial territory in one of my first replies for fear of being called a troll, but I have to say... is it really right to be banning the crazy assistant AG guy from approaching any "current or former university students or MSA reps."? Getting a restraining order against him bugging Armstrong in person makes sense, but that particular part seems to be over-reaching.

To be clear, I'm not condoning Shirvell's behavior, but at the same time I'm always concerned about putting arbitrary restrictions on people you don't like, because some day the shoe will be on the other foot.
