White House Unhappy with OPEC Output Cut
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=578&e=2&u=/nm/20040401/ts_nm/campaign_energy_dc

By Adam Entous

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites) expressed disappointment on Wednesday at OPEC (news - web sites)'s oil output cut and pressed allies inside and outside the cartel to fill any gap in supply to prevent higher prices after Democratic rival John Kerry (news - web sites) accused Bush of ignoring record pump prices.

While initially raising no public objections to OPEC's decision, the White House later voiced its displeasure and said Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites), national security adviser Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) and others were reaching out to "our friends" in OPEC and non-OPEC nations to address U.S. concerns.

had to laugh at the headline on this rewrite...they're "unhappy" with OPEC....thought Busboy had said he'd use his "influence" with the Saudis to get those spigots opened...previous posts have mentioned the financial considerations in this Saudi led move, primarily related to their increasing domestic bills and the difference between the EU$ and US$...seems the diplomatic nuance thing has got the WH flustered again...

1. Let's file this under the "duh" category.
A CEO who has made his name and money in the oil industry has al all-too-easy association with said industry that is screwing everyone at the pump. An illiterate could summarize this affiliation. Such a glaring relationship will not play lightly on the eyes and ears of millions of voters.

With second though, the relationship between the Houses of Fahd and Bush must be an unhappy one - as the Fahds have been instrumental in tightening the spigots. Perhaps this is the universe's way to get rid of its vermin.

2. It's the Peak of Oil....
OPEC has to cut back, they have no choice, they are over the Peak.

Nothing Exxon or Chevron or Shell can do. Or Bush, for that matter. Yeah, they could begin to tell the truth, but its a little too late to do the right thing now.

5. That may be but.......
That one group of terrorists endorsed Bush.

In reality the people in OPEC (or any where else) would really not benefit from the US being destroyed. These Saudi princes don't do caves. And they would like to maintain the status quo. With Bush in charge, hard at work recruiting for al-Qaeda, they too are at risk

There seems to be some emotional issue with gas prices in the US. It's more than just economics. If gas prices stay up Bush is toast.

Kerry wins, America solves its domestic problems, people go back to work, the U.S. starts working to recover its position in the rest of the world, etc., etc.

6. I like rosy scenarios too...
But what is about to occur ain't got anything but thorns.

SA has maxxed out and since no one is gonna tell the truth about Peak Oil, you can bet it's just a matter of time before all hell breaks loose. The White house isn't going bonkers, because they've seen the coming of Peak. Now I don't have the details figured out, and I'm not sure they do, but it ain't gonna be pretty - this final solution to Peak Oil. Kerry is gonna have his hands full.

All we can do is cut back on oil use. However, I don't see any sign that we will cut back anytiime soon.

10. I've already gotten rid of the Tahoe
and changed to a VW last year. My bike is in good shape too. My gashog car gets 34 mpg. The heating system in the house has a 96% efficient furnace.

It's a start.

7. Bush oil connections. Yeah, that was a big selling point.
Now they're telling us it doesn't matter who's President. Washington doesn't have any say in OPEC.
