Grenades explode near U.S. consulate in Mexico
Source: CNN International

At least three grenades exploded near the U.S. consulate in Monterrey, Mexico late Friday, a consulate employee told CNN Saturday.

The closest blast was within 40 meters (44 yards) of the consulate, spokesperson Brian Quigley said.

He did not offer many more details, but Justin Davis, a consulate duty officer, said the series of explosions occurred over the course of an hour, starting at 8 p.m. local time.

Davis said there were no reports of deaths or injuries of Americans or any damage to U.S. property, though a few cars in the area were damaged. Shrapnel injured the watchman of a nearby courthouse, according to the local El Norte newspaper. Another grenade exploded in front of a prison.

1. I'm willing to bet those grenades were not manufactured in Mexico
I'm willing to be, those grenades are of US manufacture...

Gee, I wonder where they came from? :shrug:

5. I hope you know you can't go to a gun show an buy a real grenade, right?
One of two sources are likely.. US via the MX military, or South Korea via Central America.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32272978/

The weapons are preferred by drug hitmen because they are cheap and easy to find. Many are left over from Central America's civil wars and sold on the black market to drug cartels. Some are brought in by weapons smugglers. Others are diverted from the region's militaries: In April, Guatemala seized 563 grenades after a shootout with Mexican drug cartel members, and officials later determined the grenades came from Guatemalan military bases.
<snip>
Markings on weapons match
The grenade that failed to explode in the bar in Pharr, Texas, had the same markings as grenades thrown in October at the U.S. consulate in Monterrey, Mexico, and at a television station in early January in the same city. The grenade thrown at the consulate failed to explode, and no one was injured when the grenade hit the Televisa network's studio as it aired its nightly newscast.

But all three grenades were manufactured at the same time and place, and were at one point together in the same batch from South Korea. Their manufacture date was unavailable.

4.  What he meant was the the grenades....
Were American made, bought at a gunshow in Texas, and returned to US soil by a passerby who found them on the street. :sarcasm:

I can't imagine what benefit the CIA would get out of grenading an American consulate there.
