Jack Camp, Senior Federal Judge, Arrested On Drug, Gun Charges
Source: Associated Press (via HuffPo)

ATLANTA — A veteran federal judge faces drug and firearms charges after an exotic dancer at an Atlanta strip club told authorities he used cocaine, marijuana and other illegal drugs with her.

Senior U.S. District Judge Jack T. Camp was arrested Friday minutes after he handed an undercover law enforcement agent $160 for cocaine and Roxycodone, a narcotic pain medication, that he intended to use with the exotic dancer, authorities said in a court document released Monday. They said they also found two firearms in the front seat of his vehicle.

Camp, 67, who has presided over some high-profile cases, was released Monday on a $50,000 bond. His attorney, William Morrison, said after a brief hearing that the judge intends to plead not guilty. Morrison said Camp would probably take a leave of absence and would not preside over any more cases until the charges are resolved.

2. I really don't give a damn if somebody uses these substances
Unless of course the person is a federal judge who meted out harsh sentences for non-violent drug users and possessors.

5. How often do Federal Judges hear cases for non-violent drug users and possessors?
It seams like this would be a issue handled mostly by the state courts.

7. Federal judges see thousands of drug cases every year.
This guy oversaw some of them. Yes, they're not typically personal use possession cases, but in this case, it would be the judge sentencing the same kind of people who provided him with the substances he willingly sought out. A bad case of hypocricy, at the least.

Or maybe this guy has deviated downward from sentencing guidelines for drug offenders or refused to impose mandatory minimum sentences or something. I don't know.

4. Republican thesis of the war on drugs: Do as I say, not as I do
I hope Judge Jack T. Camp gets the full experience of arrest, conviction, and imprisonment for recreational drug use.

But I know he will walk with a slap on the wrist and a comfortable retirement including free health care for the rest of his miserable life.

10. Generally speaking, since his offense was mere possession
That would get a slap on the wrist in my jurisdiction, regardless of whether he was a judge or Joe Average. Especially if he had no priors. I can't speak for the firearms laws in his jurisdiction. Where I live, assuming he didn't have a permit, it would be a gross misdemeanor, also a charge that usually gets probation and a fine.

6. They seem to be playing loose and fast with the charges.
If they are going to charge him with "possession of guns while taking drugs", why are they not also charging him with DUI since the entire transaction took place in his car?

8. If his key's not in the ignition,
or they sold him drugs, but arrested him before he took any, it's not DUI.

Federal judge charged with buying drugs from stripper

By Steve Visser and Bill Torpy

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A longtime federal judge was freed on a $50,000 bond Monday after his arrest on federal charges that he bought cocaine and other illegal drugs while involved in a sexual relationship with an exotic dancer for the past several months.

Senior U.S. District Judge Jack T. Camp Jr. was arrested late Friday night near Sandy Springs. Camp, 67, is accused of purchasing cocaine and marijuana, along with prescription painkillers that which he shared with an exotic dancer he met last spring at the Goldrush Showbar in Atlanta, according to an FBI agent’s affidavit for his arrest.

Camp met the dancer, identified in the affidavit as CI-1, when he purchased a private dance from her, according to the affidavit by Special Agent Mary Jo Mangrum, a member of a task force investigating public corruption. He returned the next night and purchased another dance and sex from her, the affidavit said. The two then began a relationship which revolved around drug use and sex.

In some cases he bought drugs from the dancer, while in others the pair purchased them from other parties, according to the affidavit. Camp sometimes took loaded guns to the deals.

15. But when you google no where not anyway at all
could I find the party of this Judge Camp. And newspapers won't publish the political party of the people in Alabama just arrested for fraud. Since Alabama is an all republican state THEY MUST BE REPUBLICANS. But you wouldn't know it. Now if it was Democrats the name Democrat would rival the size of he name of the newspaper.

To this day, Mills' tale of self-destruction is infamous for its audacity and mystery. As the chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, Mills was one of the most powerful men in Washington. He was known for being both likeable and extraordinarily knowledgable. Many in congress believed Mills was a borderline teetotaler who went home at night to study the Internal Revenue Code. 23. "... appointed to the bench by President Reagan..."
<snip>

Camp, a Vietnam veteran appointed to the bench by President Reagan, presided over cases in U.S. District Court in Atlanta for more than 20 years and was the chief judge before retiring last year and taking senior status, which essentially is a former of semi-retirement in which he still handles cases.

<snip>

As a judge, Camp had a reputation as a tough sentencer. In 2009, he sentenced former doctor Phil Astin to 10 years in prison. Astin had prescribed drugs to Chris Benoit, the professional wrestler who killed his wife, son and then himself in 2007. Camp said that the good works performed by the doctor were outweighed by his indiscriminate prescribing of drugs that caused at least two other people to die from overdoses.

Last year, Camp rejected a plea deal of an indicted pharmaceutical executive, saying the proposed 37-month prison sentence did not “accurately reflects the seriousness of the conduct.” Jared Wheat had earlier pleaded guilty to charges in connection with illegal importation of knockoff prescription drugs from Central America. Wheat later was given a 50-month sentence.

It should read: "...then began a relationship that revolved around MONEY FOR HER, drug use and sex."

He's not the first who's downfall was a stripper. I'm continually amused at guys that think a stripper really likes them but it's only as long as they keep spending money.
