ELIZABETH CITY - New details about a part-time police officer charged with murdering a classmate at a Christian college in Elizabeth City.
Police say Christopher Amyx was lying to them. He's in jail tonight as authorities take a closer look at clues found inside Amyx's room and locked inside his safe.
Jonathan Schipper was found shot to death in a dorm room at Mid-Atlantic Christian University last weekend. Amyx admitted he did it, but he claimed he shot Schipper in self-defense.
However, after taking a closer look inside Amyx's room, police came to a different conclusion.
Elizabeth City Police Chief Charles Crudup says, "We discovered he wasn't telling the truth through evidence and statements from people at the school."
The investigation led Elizabeth City Police to a safe owned by Amyx. A search document obtained by NewsChannel 3 details what was inside, including a loaded gun, a hand-written will, and medication to treat depression and schizophrenia.
