UN health agency, Iraq studying birth defects

GENEVA (AFP) – The World Health Organisation and Iraqi authorities are carrying out a survey of birth defects in Iraq following media reports of abnormal patterns in Fallujah, a WHO spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

"An investigation has begun in six governorates (administrative region) of Iraq into these reports of congenital defects," WHO spokeswoman Fadela Chaib told journalists.

The BBC reported in March that large and growing numbers of birth defects were observed by doctors in Fallujah, a former insurgent stronghold west of Baghdad that was at the heart of some of the fiercest fighting with US forces.

Chaib said the scientific "pilot assessment" by "the Iraqi government with the help of the... WHO" began in July and would take about 18 months to complete.

I remember seeing what I thought were too many birth defects when I was there. DU is a popular and important sounding scapegoat, but the more run of the mill environmental contaminants - which are ENORMOUS over there - poor diet and lack of pre-natal healthcare. Much more simple possibilities, which makes them more likely. The kids I saw over there were obviously already born.

was on a massive rise. Percentage was huge, based on the survey filled out by participants, turns out that the rate they came up with was greater than Chernobyl's at any time.. But boy some here were having a problem coughing up the bait. Hook stuck.

So no, i call bullshit on any study or claim not backed by the journal oncology, NEJM or the like, because it is political trash.

To date the WHO and UN have clear findings on DU from Bosnia and the first gulf war. Where the AT round was actually used. Does not line up with the horse shit from falluja, where an AT wound would be pretty useless anyway.

This story is like the Israeli virus that kills Muslims and the new secret weapon used in the west bank in the last war... all lies.
