44 Others Arrested in Pre-Dawn Raids, Part of Largest FBI Police Corruption Investigation Ever

(CBS/AP) More than 130 people - including 89 law enforcement officers - have been charged in Puerto Rico in one of the largest corruption investigations in decades.

The charges were revealed in a federal indictment unsealed Wednesday and returned last month by a grand jury in San Juan.

FBI agents began raids across Puerto Rico before dawn Wednesday and were arresting suspects. The Justice Department said 129 individuals are in custody and four subjects remain at-large, although it was not clear how many of the suspects were picked up Wednesday and how many were already in custody.

Island police have been tarnished by allegations of brutality, including two indictments for murder over the last two weeks.

The defendants face a variety of charges, including many related to cocaine and marijuana trafficking, corruption, and firearms offenses. The alleged offenses took place between July 2008 and September 2010.

This certainly sounds like a big bust, but it only demonstrates the corruption among the police in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, 2008-2010. It's the tip of the crooked iceberg, which leads me to ask: When's the FBI going after the really big fish?

EDIT: Sexed-up the title with info from subhead.

4. Naturally, they'd find corruption in a Puerto Rico police department
rather than in LA's or Chicago's. Maybe Butte, Montana will be their next big sting.

5. So you're saying that the allegations are fabricated?
Do you have any proof?
