Gingrich brands Democrats 'party of food stamps'
Source: Associated Press (via HuffPo)

MINNEAPOLIS — Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is advising Republican candidates on November's ballots to frame the choice for voters between Democrats as "the party of food stamps" while selling the GOP as "the party of paychecks."

With a month to go before the election, Gingrich brought his branding effort to Minnesota on Wednesday. He raised money for Republican gubernatorial nominee Tom Emmer and the state GOP during a private fundraiser.

He told reporters later that Republicans can campaign as the party of opportunity.

"Most Americans would like to get a paycheck," Gingrich said. "Most Americans would not like to be forced to have food stamps handed out by liberal Democrats."

If the conservative poor (analagous to chickens for KFC) are compelled to face the reality that Republicans don't want them to receive any form of assistance, they might have to rethink their allegiance, out of sheer necessity.

So almost half those using food stamps have paychecks. And then they keep talking about eliminating the minimum wage.

If you have a job, you should earn enough to provide the basics of life.

36. Most of those "GOP paychecks" are going to outsourced jobs
The unemployed and underemployed U.S. workers who were sidelined by the policies Gingrich champions are indeed eligible for food stamps, something Democrats have no reason to apologize for. Left to the 'mercy' of the GOP, those that require food assistance would be lining up at soup kitchens for their meals.

Edited on Wed Oct-06-10 09:47 PM by Mickeyc1004

I lost my job under Bush, and I got a job under Obama, and I'm so thankful for the food stamps and unemployment insurance that helped me make ends meet during the time I was unemployed!

For a while there, my situation was seriously desperate and food stamps and unemployment were all I had, I then was able to get a part-time job which helped me reduce my food stamps and now I'm fully employed and off altogether.

People who are unemployed and need food stamps to get by would be foolish not to vote because the first thing the republicans will do is give a big fat tax cut to the likes of Paris Hilton and cut food assistance.

Edited on Thu Oct-07-10 10:29 PM by Art_from_Ark
GinGrinch is talking like the government forces you to get food stamps instead of a job, but the sad fact is that just bringing home a paycheck in itself is no guarantee that one can meet even basic expenses. Of course, GinGrinch and other pricks like him get cushy government pension plans for just being in the congress for a few years, and they also get fat speaking fees for talking to other rich pricks. They will never know first-hand what it's like to try to make ends meet on the wage of the average working person.

61. Why does he get any air time at all?
He's nothing. And even when he supposedly was something, he was still nothing.

Back in 1995, we were sitting in a coffee house here and a reporter from a local TV station came through and was interviewing people about current issues. She came to me and asked me, "The Speaker of the House is in San Diego today, and will be giving a speech tonight. What one question would you ask him?" and I just said, "When are they going to implement campaign finance reform?" Later I watched that channel and that reporter was live at the event Gingrich was at, and got a minute with him on the air, and she said something like, "People we've been talking to around San Diego want to know about the issues like campaign finance reform, and when are you going to address that?" And he just said, "These things take time." and walked away.
