Nancy Pelosi: We'll Tie The GOP To Corporate Cash 'Like Doggy-Doo Stuck On Your Shoe'

First Posted: 10- 6-10 10:15 AM | Updated: 10- 6-10 12:00 PM

With less than a month until the election, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is urging her fellow Democrats to highlight the ties between Republicans and corporate interests and aggressively respond to attacks by Republicans that attempt to portray the Democratic Party as out of touch with the economic concerns of voters.

In an interview with The Huffington Post on Tuesday, Pelosi said she was unsure how much help Democrats will get from outside political groups that the Supreme Court has ruled can spend without limit on federal elections, and House Democratic candidates have grown increasingly nervous as corporate money pours into district after district, while union money and help from environmental and women's rights groups has been much more restrained.

..............

If Democrats can't match them in spending, said Pelosi, the party would tar Republicans by connecting them to corporate cash. "Of course, they all have euphemistic terms, "For Seniors" or "For Prosperity," or whatever it is, but really it's just cover," she said.

"Whenever you get hit with an overwhelming weight, you have to jujitsu it. So we want to turn it against them... I want to tattoo them right on to the Republican candidate," she said, smacking her hand for emphasis. "Big oil, big banks, big health insurance: We're going to tattoo you with that, so it's like doggy-doo stuck on your shoe. Wherever you go, people will know."

22. Republicans make sure that the corporations always give a token amount to Dems
Edited on Thu Oct-07-10 12:43 AM by LaPera
Besides of course the blue-dogs like Lincoln, Nelson, etc.. who reap in big corporate bucks...

Republicans probably receive 50 times what non blue dogs Dems receive from a corporation - Purposely, a corporations will sometimes donate a token amount to Dems - makes it easy for the republicans to say.... "Well the Democrats took money from the same corporation too".

In so much as a corporation might give a million bucks to a republican and the same corporation will then give say 43 thousand and change to a Dem.

The truth is they both took money, (though the vastly different amounts never surfaces). Would it matter to the voters if they were made aware of the actual amount discrepancies, who knows).

Still, this is a tried and designed tactic used by corporations, and I'm sure the republicans encourage corporations to do this....No matter, the Dems should not take a dime from polluting gouging imperialist oil corporations and the like, ever!

Would people be upset if the Dems accepted contributions from say, corporations like Apple or Google?

But then again, all it takes is ONE Blue-dog Dem like Blanche Lincoln (Democrat in name only) accepting money from banking, insurance corporations, oil or war profiteers, etc.. and the republicans have their case.

30. One complication is that unions were so depleted by right wing that ....
Edited on Thu Oct-07-10 03:30 PM by defendandprotect
for every one dollar/$ that corporations give, unions can only give 1 cent --

BUT ... the question isn't what corporations are giving -- the question has to be

WHY are our elected officials taking money from corporations? It's bribery!

And we continue to ignore that -- ! Why?

Whatever, for instance, the health care industry gave to Obama and Baucus ... it was

SUFFICIENT to destroy the movement to a single payer/MEDICARE FOR ALL system!

So -- you're saying corporatiosn got that on the cheap?

I think Americans should be concerned about elected officials taking $$ from anyone --

Apple, Google or a church, whatever!!

It's bribery -- plain and simple!

:)

19. You know .... since what you're saying is absolutely true .... post this SC decision ....
DEMOCRATS do have this fork in the road ....

#1 -- they can go the way Pelosi is suggesting and make any politician taking

corporate bribery something to be ASHAMED of ....

or

#2 -- Democrats will have to decide to debase themselves further by begging harder

for corporate bribes --

Hmmm .... which will it be?

Of course, I do find it to be quite hilarious that the Democrats are going to portray the Republicans as the pro-corporate party.

So sad that our choice is between the rabidly pro-corporate party and the not quite as rabidly pro-corporate party.

31. L.L. Cool Nancy the rapper
You gonna get a tattoo / And doggy-doo on your shoe
Wherever you go / People gonna know
When they start to think / They're gonna notice that you stink
'Cause you're a pile of walking poo / You ain't gotta clue
Talking lots of trash / Sitting on your cash...

Add a beat and it might work. Add some of those scritchy sounds from the old rap songs, too.

"It's got a good beat and I can dance to it, Mr. Clark."
