Tractor-trailer with possible explosives stopped
Source: MSNBC

BRANFORD, Conn. — Police and FBI agents Friday night surrounded a tractor-trailer possibly carrying explosives, a town official said.

Branford first selectman Anthony DaRos said police have told him that authorities were holding the semitrailer at a travel stop on Interstate 95.

The Hartford Courant reported troopers approached the vehicle and took the driver and a passenger into custody at gunpoint, then checked the vehicle for hazards. It also reported that the state police bomb squad was en route.

Police were told to be on the lookout for a brown Peterbilt tractor-trailer that may have a bomb in it that was en route from Rhode Island to New York City, the New Haven Register reported. Officers were told if they encountered it to stop it and create a perimeter and stand by.

It was uncertain whether it was a credible threat.

1. Well, I hope they let us know whether there was a real bomb
in there. Most often, there isn't. Then, we never hear about them not finding a bomb.

10. He's our First Selectman which is like being mayor here
He's not part of the "Town Council" which we actually call the Representative Town Meeting or RTM.

He's our leader and when something is going on, we appreciate hearing from him

Empty truck, dispute between driver and owner, absolutely nothing to do with "terrorism."

11. Update: No Explosives: False Alarm At Branford Truck Stop
Authorities Say No Hazard Found
BRANFORD — A tractor-trailer reported to be carrying explosives and possibly headed for Times Square was found by police about 6 p.m. at a TA truck stop off I-95 in Branford, and a search of the truck found no hazardous materials, authorities said.

"No explosive. No danger to the public," said William Reiner, a spokesman for the FBI in New Haven, at 8:45 p.m. Friday.

The drama apparently began as a result of a dispute between the truck driver and his boss, during which some threatening words were uttered. The driver's boss contacted authorities, who alerted law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for the truck, said state police Sgt. Shawn Corey
