The FBI is investigating whether a Brighton-area man is connected to the Hutaree - a group police alleged in March had planned to kill officers - after a review of his laptop computer revealed "information regarding" the group, an Ingham County sheriff's official said.

Meanwhile, Richard Scott McLeod was arraigned this week in Ingham County Circuit Court on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon after being stopped Sept. 13 for speeding.

He also is charged with unlawful possession of body armor for allegedly having a military-style ballistic vest.
McLeod returns to court Oct. 21 for a pretrial hearing.

Lt. Eric Trojanowicz of the Ingham County Sheriff's Department said Thursday that a forensic search of McLeod's laptop, which was found in his vehicle during the traffic stop, revealed "information regarding" the Hutaree, but he could not elaborate as the FBI is investigating.
"There was a connection made," Trojanowicz confirmed. "There was things (on the laptop) that made reference to the group ... but who's to say he's part of the group?"
