With cash lead, GOP adds to its targets
Source: Washington Post

By Dan Eggen and T.W. Farnam
Saturday, October 9, 2010

The Republican Party and its allies are using a clear financial advantage to pursue a rare opportunity this year, spreading resources across an unusually large number of races, including many considered safe for Democrats just weeks ago.

The conservative push further endangers Democratic control of the House and Senate in a political environment already highly favorable for the GOP.

The GOP strategy, enabled by millions of dollars raised and distributed by interest groups, has opened up contests weeks before the Nov. 2 midterm elections and forced the Democrats to ratchet up their defensive spending in many districts.

Republican Party committees and conservative groups have spent $100,000 or more in 77 different House races across the country. By comparison, the Democratic Party and its supporters have spent that much in 43 House races, according to a Washington Post analysis.

1. If the dems had led like populists rather than Blue Dogs
this would not be the case, in my opinion.

2. Whoa, whoa, whoa - cash lead?!
Which is it Washington Post, thought we had the cash - raised and more on hand,
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/morning-fix/-1-2-3-8.html

In fact, all year this has been a clear Democratic advantage leading up to the elections -
http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-08-23/democrats-outraise-republicans-in-july-have-more-cash-on-hand.html

When/how did we jump to rep having a cash lead? Don't believe it to be true but if it is, where did the money come from, because it didn't come from the people.

3. Its the GOP allies that have the cash!
1. Michael Steele would have spent any cash going to the GOP.
2. If the GOP had money Michael Steele would not be chairman.
3. Cash to allies is donated anonymously.

4. From the Supreme Court ruling
that allowed unlimited anonymous corporate donations to political allies.

5. Hey now!! This is not an issue of "corporate donations", k?
Rather its an issue of corporations no longer having to hide behind shills to buy the politicians off like for example we just saw with that recent News Corp "donation" of a million dollars.

6. Good point.

It isn't anonymous in that sense, but we don't necessarily know who the corporations are connected to.

12. Exactly. Seems like the SCOTUS is not so just. Passing a law allowing foreign countries to control
our elections. We need to pass the FAIR ELECTIONS NOW ACT where candidates are given $4. for every $1. given by a small donor. No more bullshit. Fair and square. Not of this lobbyist crap, totally detrimental to this country.

7. Let's show them we don't want big money running our government, state or federal
GET OUT AND VOTE Dems, progressives and liberals, people of color, women, elderly, veterans, gays, LBGTs, anyone with a cronic illness, anyone who loves justice and equality for all, anyone who wants peace and not more war, anyone who cares about the environment and food we eat, anyone who wants to rebuild the infrastructure, not let it decay more, anyone who is not a millionaire.

GET OUT AND VOTE AGAINST THESE GREEDY, SELFISH, RACIST, FASCIST, POOR EXCUSES FOR HUMAN BEINGS THAT ARE TRYING TO STEAL OUR GOVERNMENT SO THEY CAN CONTINUE THE SCREWING THEY STARTED IN 2000. You see what happened then when they were handed that election by the little corrupt brother of Bushy himself, and Congress did nothing about it. It was nothing but disaster for this country and the 98% of Americans who are not wealthy. Let's not let that happen ever again!

10. They are wasting their money. We all know they are doing nothing but lying in those ads
Greedy assholes. They know they will lose if most of the people vote. Watch for all of the problems they cause when it comes time to be at the polling place. I say vote absentee ballot.

15. The Democrats have not looked out for the flow of money to
Democratic voters. The money went to the fat cats -- to the bankers, to the employers, to those who already had money.

Granted some of those fat cats support Democrats, but the large Democratic voting base is in the middle and working classes and the poor. And we are hurting. So, Democrats can't collect as much money because they haven't looked out for the economic interests of Democratic voters. Thank you, Blue Dogs.

16. This all adds to the idea that elections are bought and the more money the better.
I would like to have faith in the American people enough to say they will see through this and think it stinks, but I just don't think that is the case. The media and the Republicans are doing all they can to have this election become one that one-ups the 1994 election.
