Meek says he has no plans to quit
Source: 13 News

ORLANDO --

Democratic Senate candidate Kendrick Meek says a published report saying he's considering dropping out of the race is all wrong.

The Wall Street Journal reported a deal was in the works for Meek to drop out of the race and throw his support behind Charlie Crist who's running without a party affiliation.

All polls show both Crist and Meek are way behind Republican front runner Marco Rubio.

Meek said he'll be in the race until the end.

3. What will be sad is 6 years of Marco Rubio as senator
If Crist was the one in third place I'd be hoping he would be the one to drop out.

12. So you're going to hurl insults over the man's NAME??
The man is a good democrat and his only drawback is the the pathetic of an excuse for a democratic party in FL has given him very little support, with money and campaigning power. You make yourself look like a fool when you condemn someone who is a GOOD DEM for their name.

I really thought that DU'ers were above this crap, but once again I am proven wrong.

20. That would be sad. But that's no reason to bash Meek. Meek is not a quitter.
And if he did quit, which he won't, Rubio would probably win anyway especially since many African American voters would be alienated by Meek's dropping out and just stay home.

5. I know especially since all we have heard 24-7 is
we must get out and vote and vote D. I don't understand why a democrat would support an R even if that R says he will play nice.
Boggles my mind. They should be helping Meek to win not throwing in the towel and settling for another lieberman.

13. If he doesn't want to vote for Meek that is his business...
just don't throw out some lame-ass comment that he can't win due to his name.

4. Just a thought
I have heard that the meek will inherit the earth. (Just could not help myself)
In my opinion it would be unwise for either to do this at this point. If either of them, (and I hope one of them does) were to cede to the other, it would seem to me to serve the greater purpose to wait until almost at the end. I could be wrong and I do not live in Florida. So it is just a thought.

9. What's lame is your reference. He is the Democratic candidate
for that office. If you are for Crist, you are supporting a Republican. Crist will do as all Republicans do: obstruct progress.

If you think he will do anything different from any other Republican, you are sadly mistaken. In actual effects on legislation, there is no difference whatsoever between Rubio and Crist.

Support Democrats or you just get a Republican. It is that simple. You may lose an election by supporting a Democrat, but a Republican is a Republican, not matter what he or she calls him or herself. Crist is a Republican, through and through.

6. In theory...
Crist should siphon off I/R votes from the Repub and if the majority of Dems vote their own party, Meek should be competetive.

of why that's not so. I think he's a great Dem candidate and it's a shame what's going on in FL.

if only so the people have to look at themselves and see that they personally pick second rate, right wing fakes out fear. I think he's a great Democrat in a State that clearly needs to see that example set.

16. It would be a hell of a lot easier if Crist would adopt Meek's plaform and commit to caucusing
with the Dems.

The Crist cult is asking us to back the guy(who's still basically a Republican)with no commitments from HIM at all.

He's not THAT special.

If Crist was worth supporting he'd be leading Rubio even with Meek in the race.

If Meek dropped out, the Florida Democratic Party would cease to exist.

19. I didn't say he was a fool, I said he was acting foolishly.
He has effectively no chance at all at winning. Crist, however, would have a decent shot if he withdrew, and Crist is much better than Rubio. He is irresponsible to remain in the race.

21. Your statement is exemplary for the spinelessness of today's voter.
Meek EARNED the right to be in this race! He WON THE FUCKING PRIMARY for the democratic party in FL.

Do you even live in this state? If not then you should stop posting stupid right-wing comments like you are doing. That's exactly what Rubio's people want.

No, Meek isn't irresponsible but your stupid anti-democratic comments most certainly are.

24. I don't care whether or not he "earned" any particular right.
Edited on Sun Oct-10-10 01:56 AM by Unvanguard
This isn't about rights. It doesn't have the slightest thing to do with rights. It has to do with the fact that Rubio must be kept out of the Senate. Meek withdrawing serves that end. Meek staying in does not, and has no compensating benefit. Period.

I don't live in Florida, no. However, first, there are plenty of Floridians who agree with me and, second, I do live in this country, and I would much rather have Crist in the Senate that governs me than Meek.

As for the silly suggestion that my argument is "stupid right-wing comments", there is no doubt whatsoever in my mind that the right-wing Republicans in Rubio's campaign are quite pleased with Meek staying in the race, and would be worried if he seemed likely to drop out. As far as materially helping the Right, splitting the anti-Rubio vote is far worse than encouraging Democrats to support the only candidate viably able to defeat Rubio.

Crist isn't. He was pressed for scrubbing the information from his website.

He is such a phony that I feel sorry for Meek and Florida.

27. I miswrote in the post you replied to.
Edited on Sun Oct-10-10 04:53 PM by Unvanguard
I wrote, "I would much rather have Crist in the Senate that governs me than Meek"; I meant to write "...than Rubio."

In a choice between Meek and Crist, I would choose Meek every time. My stance on the Florida election depends on the judgment that this is not the choice on offer.
