Officials release man who tossed book near Obama

The Secret Service says it questioned and released an overexuberant fan of President Barack Obama who had tossed a paperback book near the president at a Philadelphia rally on Sunday.

Spokesman Ed Donovan said the man had written the book and hoped the president would read it. Donovan said agents concluded the man posed no danger.

12. and how do you suppose a secret service agent could have stopped this

short of putting a secret service agent next to every person in the rally or banning attendees from carrying books (and wallets, watches, shoes, keys, or anything else that could be thrown). Seriously, I'd love to hear how you think this could've been prevented.

My bet is that the agent who was in charge of that side of the stage will be just fine, having identified and taken into custody the thrower.
