Sharron Angle: 'Don't say anything' to press

Nevada Republican Senate nominee Sharron Angle says her campaign’s mantra in dealing with the media is “don’t say anything.”

Angle made the remark over the weekend at a rally in Las Vegas with conservative radio host Heidi Harris.

Angle has had a rough relationship with the political press – memorably walking out of one of her own press conferences after getting a question – and has bashed the mainstream media throughout the campaign stop.

“We always say, ‘If the press comes knocking, don’t say anything,’ ” Angle said, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

1. If the public were anything but idiots, she'd be polling at 0% for that remark alone.

18. I believe one day before Nov 2nd 2010 the state of Nevada
will wake up and see the truth about the GOP and the Republican Party and take to the polls to keep these idiots out of office. The country, economy and the American Dream will come back but we must give this administration the right tools to work with to get the job done. I have a dream.

4. the entire 2010 GOP campaign strategy in a nutshell
talk AT the public, & only through approved channels - press releases, commercials, Foxnews, and only in sound bites. no debates. any questions, any extemporaneous speech can only hurt the candidate by acknowledging reality, reason, and complexity.

if i had to sell these turds i'd follow the same strategy.

9. It's an extension of Bush's strategy
of speaking only to crowds of hand-picked supporters, and staging scripted press conferences. I think it also comes from the perception that the media treated Sarah Palin unfairly in 2008 by posing "gotcha" questions like "What newspapers do you read?" Now these teabagger politicians are taking it to a new level, openly saying that they will only speak through Fox News, and trying to paint themselves as victims of the non-right-wing media.

5. And yet, I don't see the MSM calling her on it and bringing it to
the attention of the public in Nevada. The problem is that these RW assholes have learned that they can get away with it, and that they pay no price for avoiding the press and any legitimate questions. The press just laid down and went to sleep. So much for the vaunted 'Fourth Estate' and its heroic role in preserving the political process.

19. I don't live in Nevada so don't know how local media is handling this but
I suspect they may be a bit more irate about such a statement than say CNN or MSNBC... After all she is running in Nevada and not all of America..

24. United States Senator
It's a national office. She might view issues from a Nevada perspective, but FSM forbid she's elected she'd be involved in decisions that affect the whole country and the world.Hell even when she does speak she doesn't say anything. It is part and parcel of the wingers perpetual victim stance.

22. Precisely my thought
Why should Sharron Angle or any of the other nutters talk to the press? There's no upside to it, because, well, they're nutters. The downside used to be that the media would clobber a candidate who treated the people with such contempt. But now these candidates are "refreshing" "mavericks" who "play by their own rules" and who all just happen to be "fucking fascists."

23. Fox News Gives Her A Nice Friendly Forum Then The MSM Just Repeats...
...her statements on such friendly outlets.

Would the media let a progressive limit their appearances to Rachel Maddow, then dutifully report the substance of a friendly interview?

The more she speaks, the more it becomes clear what a whackjob she is.

7. Republican election strategy: avoid any public forum where a voter
or a reporter might ask a question. No vision or alternative idea on how to fix the problems - so best to stay out of sight. A cut-and-run strategy (cut attack commercials and run from truth), so to speak. Seems to be the preferred campaign strategy of today's GOP.

office. Decent people everywhere would NEVER be Republicans these days.

Only Tea Party idiots and rednecks would consider voting for these guys.

Buck, Paladino, Angle, Miller, O'Donnell, this is the BEST the Republicans can come up with?

11. It's quite disturbing actually...
The fact that candidates can completely ignore the press and still be competitive.

Once upon a time a candidate who did that would have absolutely no chance to win. With the rise of the conservative media such as Fox, these Tea Party people can literally completely go around a real vetting process.

A few will get called out like O'Donnell, but most are just gliding through the process unscathed.

13. Right up there with candidates who refuse to debate
Schwarzenegger won the California governorship with just one debate, refusing all others. You are precisely right: the disturbing thing is that they can get away with it.

21. The tactic of the stupid and uninformed.
Once upon a time there was a saying that went, "better to keep ones mouth shut and thought the fool".

Well, it appears as if now, the tea party ball lickers have taken it a step further.

Better to keep ones mouth shut after saying really really really stupid shit, then hope they again think of you as a fool and not actually a fool.

They are betting hard that the other old saying works for them "you can only fool some of the people some of the time".
