Security Officials Again Recommend Fencing In Capitol
Lawmakers Question Proposal
Thursday, April 1, 2004; Page B01

Federal security planners are reviving a proposal to build a fence around the U.S. Capitol and Congressional office buildings to deter potential terrorist attacks.

<snip>

Senators objected, calling the notion an offense to a world-famous symbol of American democracy.

"Most Americans would rebel at the idea of their Capitol being fenced off. . . . It flies in the face of what Americans think," said Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colo.), the panel's chairman. But he added that if a barrier were built, he hoped it would be unobtrusive.

6. Alcatraz makes for beautiful pictures...
those POS would ruin the setting.

And I wouldn't want those POS living the rest of their sorry miserable lives near me anyways.

Devil's Island is a much better alternative.

4. They aren't afraid of "terrorists" so much as they are their own citizens.
They will all need to live under lock and key if these outrageous policies and lies continue. Rove certainly got that message loud and clear at the recent protests at his HOME.

11. The US capital prison
What great idea. Corporate feudalism has been begging a castle
for some time... just where will the moat be... and the dungeon.
We can have our own "tower" of washington, and get some ancient
torture devices to boot. That'll increase tourism.

Around the wall, they should put 1000's of artillery pieces and
rockets and minefields... wow... what a great idea. Then they can
have a government barracks where each prisoner has a cellmate who
will not rape them, just like in prison. The gates'll open up once
and a while to let the king come out and be seen by the people, or
at least one of his look-alikes.

The wall should be really tall, say 100 feet, and 50 feet thick like
the great wall of china, even visible from space... wow, these guys
are brilliant.

16. It is already surrounded by concrete dividers
designed to make sure that you can't get a truck bomb within a block of the Capitol building. The House and Senate office buildings are not as well protected (at least not when I was last there three years ago). The office buildings are all connected to the Capitol itself by tunnels so the congresspeople never have to actually go outside to go from their offices to the floor to vote. There is even an electric subway that leads from the Senate office buildings to the Capitol. To include the office buildings in the perimeter would mean fencing off a huge area.
