PALE, Bosnia-Herzegovina (AP) - Waving Serbian flags, 3,000 protesters denounced NATO on Thursday for a pre-dawn raid in search of war-crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic that wounded a priest and his son.
The raid outraged the people who live in Pale, Karadzic's stronghold during the 1992-1995 Bosnian war. Within hours of the raid, crowds carrying banners reading "Stand proud, Serb people," and "Nobody will arrest a Serb," lit candles and prayed for those the two wounded in the NATO sweep.
"It can't go on like this," said one protester, Novka Suko, 46. "Their helicopters are scaring the children daily. ... How long is this going to last?"
Acting on intelligence information, NATO-led troops raided a church and a rectory used by Orthodox priests and their families early Thursday. Soldiers used explosives to open the door, wounding the priest and his son.
