Dropped rape case dogs GOP Senate candidate

Source: Associated Press

DENVER — Colorado Republican Senate candidate Ken Buck decided against prosecuting a 2006 rape case and suggested a jury might deem it a "case of buyer's remorse" — a comment that Democrats and women's advocacy groups are criticizing as insensitive.

The case involved a University of Northern Colorado student who told Buck — who is Weld County's district attorney — that she wanted to press charges against an ex-boyfriend after the man had sex with her.

Buck told her he wasn't sure a prosecution would be successful.

Buck told the paper that "a jury could very well conclude that this is a case of buyer's remorse," a comment that is being blasted by Democrats and women's groups.

1. It's not a common occurrence that exes have sexual intercourse with each other
Maybe on TV, not in real life. Buck could have taken a good look at what she was saying.

K&R.

2. Are you kidding?
Hell, I've had that go on for years after the fact. Of course it is common. That's not to say whether or not that happened here, but please, don't make up facts to support an opinion, form an opinion that is consistent with the facts. Maybe you hate your ex-significant others, but many people like their exes just fine and continue having a good relationship after the "couple" part is gone.

3. Whoa, why so vicious? I like my exes very much
I'm pretty sure you don't have any statistics to show how many exes continue to have sexual relationships with each other either besides for yourself.

4. Sounds like a good poll for the GD forum.
I've hooked up with many exes after we were "officially" broken up, even up to a few years after the fact.

9. Probably already research on this, but CW among therapists is that hookup's common for exes nt

But I don't think that changes the OP. Frankly, it's hard for a criminal defendant to win any kind of criminal case, including rape case like this, and it is always theoretically possible for a jury to find for the defendant on any number of theories, so the candidate really isn't SAYING anything unless and until specific facts of the case are mentioned and argued. The stated premise of the candidate, while offensive, could be mentioned on virtually any rape case where consent is even remotely raised as a defense, even in passing

6. Please keep this story circulating...
I posted about this yesterday, http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x9295068 , the word is getting out there. Ken Buck will drag womens rights and then everyone else's back to the nineteenth century. He is lousy as a DA, he would be downright dangerous as a Senator.

8. Buck keeps doing such a bad job that he gets "promoted" to another job.
First it was a job as a U.S. attorney which he was reprimanded out of because he helped the opposition win the case. Then as county DA, he wouldn't do his job and prosecute a rape case. Now he wants to be OUR senator. I'm sure he'll do a heck of a job (on US) again.
