Bill Clinton Campaigns for Jerry Brown
Source: New York Times

Almost two decades after they tussled for the Democratic presidential nomination, Bill Clinton and Jerry Brown campaigned together on Friday, when the former president stumped for Mr. Brown, the Democratic candidate for governor in California, and Gavin Newsom, the candidate for lieutenant governor.

At the rally at the University of California, Los Angeles, Mr. Clinton focused on economics and investments in green energy, drawing a sharp distinction between Democratic and Republican policies. “I agree with Jerry,” Mr. Clinton said. “These candidates have dramatically different ideas. One will lead you to a brighter future. The other will lead you to a movie we’ve seen before.”

snip...

In their introductions, both talked up Mr. Clinton’s economic record of creating jobs and cutting the national debt. Mr. Clinton remains one of the Democrats’ few bankable stars in a political environment in which candidates are distancing themselves from Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House. President Obama has planned campaign stops only in states he won two years ago.

Mr. Clinton, who has stumped across the country in Republican strongholds like Kentucky and Mississippi, said he had not expected to get so involved in this campaign, but felt he had to put the election in context. “If young people vote in the same percentage of the electorate that they did two years ago, all the good guys win,” Mr. Clinton said.

1. I'm grinning at this story. These two folks are
not what you'd call best pals.

There is some serious discord between the two. They are very different kinds of Democrats. They are very different kinds of men.

This time, though, they stand together in a common interest.

I like it.

12. The Brown-Clinton primary wars were engaging as
hell to us political junkies. This goes back to the 90s.

Jerry Brown and Bill Clinton are uneasy folks in the same room, and the room in question could definitely be a convention center.

I'm talkin' a big room.

Brown, on the other hand, seemingly never exhaled . . .

11. Brown and Boxer
will win by large margins. Actually I think across the country there will be surprises and upsets with Dems winning key areas.

13. I'm glad they smoked the peace pipe. Jerry needs to win.
It will be a delicious irony if Bill Clinton's support ends up being key to his victory, given their past bitter enmity. And it will make the unhappy little platoon of Clinton-hating Democrats squirm, which is always amusing.
