Condoleezza Rice admits mistakes in Iraq
Source: the australian

CONDOLEEZZA Rice has conceded the US made mistakes in the Iraq war during the Bush administration.

But she stands by the original decision to oust Saddam Hussein.

The former US secretary of state for president George W. Bush believes his administration put too much emphasis on Baghdad, and not enough on Iraq's regions. "I do believe I would take Saddam Hussein out of power again, but of course in the rebuilding of Iraq . . . I would do things differently," Dr Rice says in a CNN interview to be aired today.

Dr Rice has not denied having "shouting matches" with the hawkish defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

In the interview, she argues it is still too early to fully judge the success or failure of the Iraq war and other policy decisions of the Bush era. "Sometimes things that look terrific at the time look pretty bad in retrospect, and vice versa, so ultimately this is a story that will be written in history," she says.

The New York Times reported yesterday that hundreds, possibly thousands, of US-allied Sunnis from the Awakening Councils had quit their positions and joined rebels aligned with al-Qa'ida.

3. Not "mistakes," Condi... crimes. War crimes, specficially
that outweigh any questionable good derived from "ousting" Saddam.

4. When she says it was a criminal act of war to even go there in the first place
And that she was complicit in the decision to commit crimes against humanity I might give a shit. Until then she's just a criminal who's gotten away with her crimes.

Edited on Mon Oct-18-10 09:55 AM by Solly Mack
"mistakes were made"

Course, those so-called "mistakes" were actually crimes.

Edit to add: FUCK Rice and all the rest of the Bush administration.

7. When did they look terrific?
I'm guessing that was the short period when they decided to go in before the deadline and hoped that the first hour of Shock and Awe would be enough to kill Saddam. They were working out of plan after that.

10. Ms. Rice, how'd your Iraq Stabilization Group thingy turn out?
Would you judge it a success or failure, or would you just as soon forget about it like Bush apparently did? Can you differentiate between a mistake and a miserable failure?

25. So will you be traveling abroad to promote your book?
My guess is, no, like the rest of the Bushites, she won't be testing the international waters, what with all those foreigners out there ready to serve her with a subpoena from the International Criminal Court.

Now this could be avoided if the U.S used its own war crimes legislation to prosecute these war criminals. I'm guessing her meeting with Obama last week (also reported in the article) suggests that prosecution remains unlikely.

"We must look forward" as the White House message puts it.

I know I'm looking forward to visiting France and England this summer, which is something that, happily, no Bushite can dare to hope for.
