Iran tells Iraqi prime minister 'get rid of America'
Source: UK telegraph

Iran has demonstrated its hold over the future of Iraqi politics, telling Nouri al-Maliki, the prime minister, to "get rid of America" as he arrived to ask Tehran's blessing for a second term in office.

Mr Maliki, who is on a tour of Middle Eastern capitals to drum up support for his bid to stay in power, had an audience with Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Two weeks ago, the Iranian leadership negotiated backing for Mr Maliki from the militant Shia grouping, the Sadrists, who had previously been deeply opposed to his candidacy.

"The Iraqi nation is vigilant and aggressors cannot dominate this country again," Mr Khamenei told Mr Maliki, according to a statement put out by his office. "May God get rid of America in Iraq so that its people's problems are solved."

Mr Khamenei's aggressive stance, while seeming to give his blessing to Mr Maliki, whose secular Shia State of Law party came a close second in Iraqi elections in March, will alarm the Americans.

Nobody for President in 1976.

2. Did we really expect to be accepted as liberators?
Especially after bombing the shit out of their country and killing all their family? Why do we expect so much from the people we destroyed?

7. I'd like to hear what Liz and Dick Cheney have to say about this
development. It was their ignorance that pushed the Sunnis out of power. Now they have greater Iran to deal with.

I bet that was not their intention when they cooked up their crazy scheme.

10. Seriously

Iran and Iraq are probably the 2 biggest Shiite majority countries aren't they??

Considering that probably more Shiites are killed by terrorists than any other group wouldn't you expect them to stick together??

The US paved the way for the eventual merging of the two countries by removing the minority rule on Iraq.

I understand US history with Iran, and I don't think they are a free society but interesting we are pals with worse on the Sunni side and it's the Sunnis that are the major international terrorists. WE should be making nice with the Shiites. We are both targets of Sunni terrorists.
