Former Alaska governor and Tea Party favorite Sarah Palin kicked off a Tea Party Express bus tour on Monday with a plea for Republicans to "man up" and support the movement.

36. Yes. However, men have been equating courage and strength with balls for at least as long
as I've been alive--and I would bet any money a man was the first to say "man up."

I'm more than very sorry if this impacts gay men adversely and disproportionately. However, I wish all people would stop using any term that implies males have a corner on admirable qualities of human beings.

4. She's going to break the sexy librarian spell with that kind of talk
I don't think it will sit well with the mesmerized males in the GOP. Palin forgot she is supposed to be cooing to them, making that startled, wide-eyed, "Baby so cute! Baby so cute!" expression and so forth. Questioning their manliness is a total wood killer, and that's basically her whole show.

Is there any demographic on the face of the planet as insecure in their sexuality as the average GOOPer male? They won't appreciate having their manliness called into question by assertive females.

20. Why is it always a man's manliness is called into question:
Never have we heard the term "Woman Up"...

Note to all: This is the wrong phase for a woman to say to a man.... Essentially its like calling a woman a b1tch, its just calling the man the b1tch... Obviously both are very ineffective.

66. Wow! Palin is stealing memes from Mini-Me?

I think what the Rude Pundit had to say about this phenomenon is correct:

What the fuck's with the Tea Party women's fixation on men acting manly? Angle told Reid to "Man up" about Social Security. Sarah Palin attacked Barack Obama's balls. Christine O'Donnell implies her male opponents are gay. Honestly, they all sound like they're just begging for a rough fucking.

when Angle used that phrase on him and he didn't rip her a new one.

"We are in a debate to determine which of us will sit in the greatest deliberative body on earth, where world-shaking decisions are made, and you act like this is a middle-school playground and you're a bully taunting one of the other children.
You will apologize immediately, or this debate is OVER."

I wonder what Neanderthals invented first, misogny or homophobia? Both are founded in contempt for things associated with women and feminity, and the mistaken belief in the superiority of stereotypical hetero males to all other people.

man up is a term to emasculate a male specifically democratic males. In order to fight back you must go after these people at their core which is to turn right around and emasculate the queen bee's male. get with it.

59. It's the same argument I had with my wife over Cheney
When Cheney told Pat Leahy to go fuck himself she said it was better to go above board which is what you are saying. I said that he should have wailed off and punched him out. Decked him and layed him out. Men and many people respect fighting in the trenches. It's very primitive. Your argument is the words of "elites" and some times you just need to deck someone.

If Leahy had decked Cheney it would only have given the Repubs more fodder for denigrating Democrats as out of control or too sensitive or something like that. There's always a way to spin any reaction to one's favor.
