"Don't vote this November. This is the only way to send them a clear message," a narrator says. "You can no longer take us for granted."

"Them" refers to President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats whose images are flashed during the 60-second spot, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada.

While I may agree with respect to someone like Ben Nelson or Blanche Lincoln, are they really representative of most Democrats in Congress? Also, Joe Lieberman is not even a Democrat. Yet, they are often cited on DU as somehow being representative of most Democrats, and therefore all Democrats are quasi-Republicans.

So, I always have to wonder whether someone who really believes that most elected Democrats are quasi-Republicans is really a Democrat?

If you accept the premise that Democrats don't really represent Democratic ideals, couldn't you argue that Republicans have similar strayed from the ideals laid down by Lincoln?

18. It depends on your definition of "truly Democrats"...

Many would argue that most of today's Democrats in Congress and the WH aren't really Democrats at all... that they are quasi-Republican corporatists who are masquerading as Democrats and sullying the reputation of the once-great Democratic brand-name... a brand that was built by the blood, sweat, and tears of laboring people of the past. They might argue that the "true Democrats" (to use your words) are the ones who actually adhere to the principles of the once-great Democratic party - who care enough not to allow themselves to be duped by interlopers. They might even see posts such as yours as displaying evidence of manipulative intent. Unfortunately, this is the type of psychological game-playing that splits a party.

That said, there's no excuse for not voting. There's absolutely nothing to be gained by it, IMO.

13. Yikes, today in poli sci class I was learning about federal regulation of voting rights.

This kind of advertising should NOT be protected under the First Amendment. I put this under violations of Voting Rights Acts and maybe analogous to falsely yelling "FIRE!" I wonder if the RNC sought out unemployed Cuban-Americans in Miami for this supposed "Latinos for Reform" group.
