Albany Governor Debate Verges on Farce
Source: NY Times

The moderators’ questions were frequently ignored. The candidates barely looked at one another. One wore black gloves and spoke of himself repeatedly in the third person. And Andrew M. Cuomo, the Democratic candidate and the race’s front-runner, at times struggled to suppress laughter.

The first — and possibly last — debate in the New York race for governor unfolded as 90 minutes of political theater verging on farce Monday night, with a format that allowed even cursory discussion of issues like taxes and schools to be interrupted by random one-liners and sometimes inexplicable answers.

Kristin Davis, a former prostitution madam, made frequent brothel jokes.

2. This is how the tea party looks to us...
Like a bunch of 3rd party wack-jobs. Take Mrs.Palin for example, I too find it hard to suppress my laughter.

3. It was fun
quite the 'only in NY' debate. What other state has a 'The Rent is Too Damned High' Party?

4. Understandably...
as any rent in NYC is "Too Damned High". How can people afford to live in that city?

5. Well, some of us are rent controlled.
And some of us are rent stabilized.

And some of them are too damn rich.

Jimmy McMillan, the candidate of the Rent Is Too Damn High Party, responded to a question about same-sex marriage by declaring
“If you want to marry a shoe, I’ll marry you.”

edit: changed post in its entirety

7. As does politics in general in this country.
And it is not just "verges on".

9. Whatever else it did, it showed the NY Republican Party to be the equal of a fringe party.

10. I really enjoyed an interview with Paladino's advisor Roger Stone last night
I don't remember which talking head show he appeared on, but I got a good laugh about it.

Stone is working both for Paladino and for Kristin Davis in the same race. I had to admire Stone for his frank admission to being "both a libertarian and a libertine".

By splitting the right-wing/libertarian/GOP vote, Stone is actually one of Andrew Cuomo's best friends in the race.
