BREAKING: Univision Will Not Air GOP Group’s Ad Telling Latinos Not To Vote

Earlier today, ThinkProgress reported that Latinos for Reform — a Republican 527 group — purchased an $80,000 buy on Univision to air ads urging Nevada Latino voters not to vote. We urged Univision not to air the ads. The network, which heads the non-partisan Latino civic participation campaign, Ya Es Hora, has decided to do the right thing and not broadcast the ads. A Univision spokesperson told ThinkProgress:

***** Univision will not be running any spots from Latinos for Reform related to voting. It is also important to clarify that while Mr. Robert de Posada has on occasion provided political commentary on Univision, representing one of various points of views, he is not in any way affiliated with Univision. Univision prides itself on promoting civic engagement and our extensive national campaigns encourage Hispanics to vote.

57. Latinos must not vote. The Republican overlords have told them so.

Latinos, African Americans, young people, elderly Social Security freeloaders and other commie Democrats, you have all been given your marching orders:

Stay home on Election Day.

And remember, Election Day is Dec. 13.

So you don't need to be voting in no STINKIN election on Nov. 2nd ANYWAY.......

"DEMOCRATS, DO NOT VOTE"
"DEMOCRATS, DO NOT VOTE"
"DEMOCRATS, DO NOT VOTE"
"DEMOCRATS, DO NOT VOTE"
"DEMOCRATS, DO NOT VOTE"
"DEMOCRATS, DO NOT VOTE"
"DEMOCRATS, DO NOT VOTE"
"DEMOCRATS, DO NOT VOTE"
"DEMOCRATS, DO NOT VOTE"
"DEMOCRATS, DO NOT VOTE"
"DEMOCRATS, DO NOT VOTE"
"DEMOCRATS, DO NOT VOTE"
"DEMOCRATS, DO NOT VOTE"

The intergalactic force has instructed you.

Besides, if you show up to vote we'll be checking your driver's license to see if you're an illegal alien.
So stay OUT of the Election, ya hear me? Stay OUT.

6. Robert de Posada is a typical Republican asshole. Update:
From Think Progress:

Update De Posada shot back by simply accusing Univision of succumbing to Democratic pressure. "They got a little bit of pressure from the Democratic Party and they pulled it off," he said.

So is he saying that encouraging people not to exercise their democratic right to vote is the Republicans' idea of democracy?

18. A smaller pool of Democratic voters.
Talk about cutting their noses off-- a lot of Latinos are conservative, but the consistent race-baiting the Republicans have done over the last couple of decades has guaranteed that no self-respecting Latino will vote for Republicans. That's the case in the Southwest, anyway. Cubans in Florida mostly seem to consider themselves exempt. Won't they be surprised, when the Republicans throw them under the bus, too?

53. Source Watch connects the dots to the Swift Boaters
Yet again, Source Watch did their typical stellar job of connecting the dots of the right-wing Latinos for Reform to the Swift Boaters:

Latinos for Reform serves as a front group for conservative Republican interests in the mid-term elections in October, 2010, by running a 60 second ad on television urging Latinos not (repeat NOT) to vote in the coming elections, as a way to “pay back” the Democratic Party for failing to enact immigration reform during the first two years of the Obama administration.

Latinos for Reform is conservative political action committee that shares the same Alexandria, Virginia post office box as several other registered PACs…. The treasurer of all groups is Republican political operative Susan Arceneaux, and the assistant treasurer of all groups … is a well-connected member of the Republican Party…. Latinos for Reform’s P.O. Box number (P.O. Box 26366, Alexandria, Virginia, 22313), is also the address of the Admiral Roy F. Hoffman Foundation … the same consulting firm used by Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.
(Emphasis added)

influencing the other side to not vote is a tried and true method.

Politics is a very dirty business. I'm sure a party as cynical and jaded as the GOP have people out all over doing just this to Democrats. They seek to sow discord and negative emotion among us to lower morale in order to depress voter turn out.

In addition, you can be darn sure those who are corrupt who happen to be on Wall Street don't want us to vote. We have the raw numbers and they have the money. An active engaged voting population = a pain in their ass. They may corrupt politicians and we may remove them from office.

It's also interesting that in real life, liberals generally support Obama while on the Internet (where you can't really find out a lot of peoples' political views) there's an impression created that they don't.
