Wife of Clarence Thomas Reaches Out to Anita Hill Over 1991 Episode
Source: NYT

Virginia Thomas, the wife of Associate Justice Clarence
Thomas of the Supreme Court, left a message last weekend on
the voice mail of Anita Hill, who accused her husband of
sexual harassment during his confirmation hearings, a
spokeswoman for Ms. Thomas confirmed on Tuesday.

In a message left at the office of Ms. Hill, who is now a
professor at Brandeis University, Ms. Thomas apparently
brought up Ms. Hill's accusations against her husband during
the 1991 hearings.

Andrew Gully, senior vice president of the Brandeis
University communications office, confirmed that Ms. Hill had
received the message and that she had turned it over to the
campus department of public safety. That office, in turn,
passed it on to the F.B.I.

1. Maybe she thinks the photocopy he showed around the
office where he worked with Anita Hill proved it was big enough for both of them. I mean Thomas was proud of the size.

It turns out this is what she actually said to her...

“Good morning, Anita Hill, it's Ginny Thomas,” it quoted from the voicemail. “I just wanted to reach across the airwaves and the years and ask you to consider something. I would love you to consider an apology sometime and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband. So give it some thought and certainly pray about this and come to understand why you did what you did. Okay have a good day.”

This is really weird; this certainly won't help Clarence Thomases reputation, which is shakey at least. I believe Mrs. Thomas wants to get more coverage in the news to promote her tea potty career.

52. Holy crap--!! Mrs. Pervert is delusional .... was she drunk when she left this message?
Something's bugging her --

"what she did WITH her husband" ... ???

Odd way of putting her husband's sexual harassment of Prof. Hill--!!

This woman is "more to the right than Atilla the Hun" -- as others have described her.

And, evidently, another "god" freak!

Perhaps it's guilt gnawing at Mr. & Mrs. Pervert?

9. What a self righteous jerk Ginny is.
Anita Hill told the TRUTH to the Senate, and was vilified and dragged through the mud.

She has NOTHING to apologize for.

On the other hand, Clarence Thomas LIED, committed flat-out perjury in front of the Senate, and got confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice.

Fortunately, before he died, Thurgood Marshall told Clarence Thomas, "You are not fit to shine my shoes." That was a fitting evaluation.

Thank you! Hadn't heard of that quote before ....

and well deserved on part of Clarence the clown --

Thurgood Marshall as he announced his retirement was asked by reporters immediately

if he thought Poppy Bush would honor his seat as a "black" seat.

Thurgood Marshall said in reply . . .

"It is not the color of a snake that is important. It is whether or not it bites!"

Clarence Thomas is a snake that bites -- and has been called a "Judas" by his own people!

Only the Bush's could have succeeded in orchestrating putting a pervert on the Supreme Court!

aside from the most obvious violation of Professor Hill's privacy is the spin the Times put on it - "reaching out" - and how many idiots will read the opening lines and think "Thomas is reaching out. Isn't that wonderful." Yup, the "liberal" media does it again.

59. And, Sen. Joe Biden who helped Clarence Thomas survive the hearings by NOT
permitting relevant witnesses to be heard!

There was something like a dozen witnesses who had worked at the EEOC --

one as a speech writer -- who were willing to testify to Clarence's sexist comments

to women at the EEOC --

Biden delayed the hearing into the middle of the night, after promising Hill's lawyers

that these witnesses would be heard, and then he proceeded to put on a guy who was there

to smear Prof. Hill -- and let him speak for something like four hours.

At the end of that time, he couldn't remember if Prof. Hill had called him or he had

called her! Totally meaningless testimony!

However, by then it was 4am in the morning and Biden ended the hearings -- BETRAYING

everyone -- Prof. Hill and her lawyers and advisers! And, all of America, in fact!

This of course set us up for the 2000 Bush vs Gore decision!

Although I've been pleased with the job he's doing.

But the men connected to those hearings were never my friends.

99. Absolutely agree .... did you read "Strange Justice" ...?
Terrific book --

My library had it --

Still don't trust Biden, however --

I'd sooooo love it if C-span one day would play the WHOLE of the hearings ...

from first to last!

Prof. Anita Hill did a tremendous service for the nation and women -- and as yet

has gotten nothing but punishment for it!! How she withstood the hearings --

and the evil things the Senators were saying to her, I can't imagine.

She had a wonderful team and mentors with her, but still -- it was evil what those

men did! Hatch, Specter, Simpson --

Later, Sen. Paul Simon said that had the Congress known before nominating Thomas what

we eventually know they would never have voted for him!!

Poppy Bush must be laughing at this every day -- sticking us with his creep.

Paved the way for Bush vs Gore!

143 videos results for that search, starting back at Court of Appeals hearings.

I've never had any success to date with checking thru archives!

Still can't figure out how DU's work --

but at some point I'll give that a try --

thanks again!

:)

PS: Just want to amend this to say that I wish C-span would replay the whole hearing

again on TV for everyone to see ---

And, I think I realized this a long time ago, but just came to my attention again ....

I think the witness that Biden used to delay the hearings into the middle of the night

-- finishing at 4am -- was a then unknown ... Armstrong Williams!

Who was being used to try to claim that Prof. Hill was a temptress who was trying to date him!

In the end, at 4am, Armonstrong Williams volunteered that he couldn't recall if he had called

Prof. Hill or if she had called him! But this four hours or more of garbage was used to keep

relevant witnesses from being presented -- and then Biden CLOSED the hearings in complete

betrayal of Prof. Hill's legal team and her mentors and, of course, of Prof. Hill -- and the

women of America!

Thanks again for your effot!

:)

108. What struck me as well was "hello Anita Hill."
It's a subtle diminishing tactic, sometimes not even consciously recognized. To address someone by both names can sometimes be a dog whistle put-down. A proper salutation would have been "hello Ms. Hill" or "hello Professor Hill" or even "hello Anita." But "hello Anita Hill." Someone with a self-bestowed superiority complex does that to someone else over whom he or she wishes to feel superior or appear superior. I had a senior English teacher who treated me that way. She didn't like me and she never addressed me by my first name. It was always first name-last name. She never did that to anyone else in class - only me. It's like I became this strange hybrid thing - an anitahill, not good enough to be referred to as an Anita, or a Ms. Hill.

60. the headline about "reaching out" is not in the NYT and is misleading
Its irony would be useful if it reflected how some major media phrased it, but both the NYT and on CNN TV News they correctly framed the issue as a request or demand for an apology

it is curious that this comes at the height of an election season where the wind is at the back of the GOP

Clarence told the truth, Bush protected us from terrorism, tax cuts for the rich help the economy, and Pat Boone was better than Elvis.

Although one wonders... She has held on to this for so long that one suspects the little demons who whisper doubts into her heart won't let her sleep after all these years.

64. A reminder about this sickening story
for those of you too young or not here yet to remember. There were three other witnesses ready to testify to Congress regarding Thomas' sexual harassment. There was a backroom deal made with the Republicans pushing Thomas through and prohibiting the women from testifying to Congress. The DEMOCRAT who made that back-room deal? Non other than our illustrious VP, Joe Biden.

90. She was certainly fishing for information for some purpose
Perhaps it's as simple as marital infidelity but where the GOP is concerned, it could be far more nefarious. We hear that Thomas and Scalia are attending secret meetings with conservative donors and Anita Hill is coincidentally getting calls from his wife around this same time? I'm sure Thomas was recording that conversation in hopes of getting an apology that could be leaked or getting Hill's voice on tape so that the recording could be altered, thereby dredging up the past and making it seem as though there is a coordinated attack against poor Clarence. These folks are plain evil and just about anything is possible. I'm glad Ms. Hill was smart enough to make sure the voicemail got to the proper authorities.

88. Clarence Thomas' Wife Asks Anita Hill to Apologize
Source: AP

Virginia Thomas, described by the AP as "a longtime conservative activist," and founder of Liberty Central, a conservative nonprofit organization dedicated to ending "the leftist "tyranny" of the Obama administration and congressional Democrats," left a voicemail for Anita Hill on Ms. Hill's Brandeis University phone, requesting an apology and a "full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband."

92. The story is getting even more interesting now...
Earlier on MSNBC Tamara had two guests on her show discussing Ginni Thomas.
One of the guests said that Ginni Thomas was supposed to have had several events and media interviews promoting her teaparty organization Liberty Central this week, BUT they had been 'mysteriously' canceled a week or so ago.
Also, the day Ginni left the call for Anita Hill was the same day that a big story was published in The Washington Times (or one of those big publications) regarding Ginni's Liberty Central group (which has taken 'big' undisclosed donations).

So, could it be that Justice Thomas was getting flack from the other justices about Ginni's teaparty group and he pressured her to cancel the events until after the mid-terms? And could that have sent her into a frenzy that led her to leave that call on Anita Hill's answering machine?

It's going to be interesting to see what else comes out regarding this story :)

But in an anti-woman work climate where no one would believe Hill, there could be some credibility in Hill's story. I mean it's such a Thomas said, Hill said story with so many twists and turns.

103. Hill had all the credibility in the world
I watched the full hearings (which was when I first became a Joe Biden fan).

She had never intended her allegations against Thomas to be public. She submitted them privately.

She was then subjected to everything every woman who has ever made an allegation of sexual assault or harassment against a man has ever feared. Her character was shredded in public, her integrity was assailed at a Senate hearing ... Yes, that's something that someone volunteers for just because ... just because ... ?

I didn't have that perception of the hearings. I came away with the impression that Clarence Thomas is a classic pervert (and, a WATB), and Anita Hill is both honest and well-spoken. The additional testimony from others further convinced me that Thomas acted inappropriately and then lied about it.

Pathetic, really...

109. Thank goodness
you are not the one who was asked to judge the merit of the allegations. Ms. Hill was prevented from presenting corroborating witness testimony by Joe Biden who claimed to want to avoid the politics of personal destruction or some such lame nonsense. Biden covered for Thomas. Hill didn't even get to present evidence. Thomas remains and asswipe, even with grey sideburns. Hill's allegations remain credible.
