Democratic establishment gives up on Alan Grayson: report
Source: Raw Story

The Democratic Congressional Committee has given up on firebrand House Rep. Alan Grayson and has stopped sending him money for his re-election campaign, states a report at National Journal's Hotline On Call.

According to Hotline's Reid Wilson, Grayson is among a growing number of House Democrats who are considered so unlikely to win their races that there is little point in sending them money from the national party.

Well, crap. This is depressing. The article links to a poll that shows Grayson 16 points behind.

Congressman Grayson was up until then.

So it would seem it is okay for Republican candidates to rely on lies, distortions and smears but not okay for Democrats to do the same.

Right now, I have a representative who may not always act like a gentleman, but always has my back. IF he isn't re-elected, I will have a representative who acts like a gentleman while stabbing me in the back.

21. No, Grayson ran that ad because he was losing...
You don't run a controversial negative ad like that when your up in the polls.

The "internal polls" his campaign were releasing were nonsense all along.

It's a conservative leaning district and he is probably too far to the left to hold it in an election cycle that favors Republicans.

32. I think that's it
It's a very risky gambit -- one that Jack Conway just tried this week as well, also presumably because it's getting late and he's down as well.

37. He Was Up A Bit
I believe the polls had him up a bit before that ad.

Then again, maybe it's just a matter of timing. Who pays attention in September? Congressman Grayson was being hammered pretty hard by outside interest groups too. This way, the special interests could smear Grayson while Grayson's opponent kept his hands clean.

18. This indeed pisses me off
On Mr.Grayson's FB page the right wing lurkers are already celebrating, I never understood why the so called blue collar conservatives get so giddy to vote for a political party that doesn't care about any of their social issues and for 30 years their beloved Republican party has push policies go against them so when they finally find someone that actually cares about their well being but they rather send him packing because there's a black guy in the White House. In a prefect world crappy Republican policies would only hurt crappy Republican voters.

26. He pissed in his own soup.
His "Taliban Dan" claim, and his deceptive quotes made him ripe for the loss. I admired him for a long time, but those two things show me he is a fraud.

First, honesty and integrity: sadly, Grayson has little of either, IMO.

28. Progressive candidates with honesty and integrity will be re-elected.
"Grayson's blunt, even angry, style has enabled him to rack up accomplishments unusual for a freshman House member: $310 million in federal grants for his district, which has paid for everything from urban trails to more firefighters; influence on a sweeping bill to toughen regulations of banks and Wall Street; and millions in contributions from donors all over the country.

But his style has often eclipsed his accomplishments, as when he labeled an ex-lobbyist and adviser to the Federal Reserve a "K Street whore" or tried to get a local critic prosecuted for mocking him on a website, or took to calling Dan Webster, his Republican opponent, "Taliban Dan" and running a TV ad that used Webster's comments to a fundamentalist Christian group out of context."

29. Poll is bunk
The 16 points that Grayson is down was only shown in an internal poll done by the NRCC. It's internals were not released, so I doubt the veracity of the belief that Grayson is done. Keep supporting him, and GOTV.

33. It won't help him that some Democrats are depressing the black vote by
backing a former Republican running for the US Senate, while suggesting that the African-American Democrat in the race should drop out.

Mark my words, we will win the governorship and lose seats in the state legislature, partly because African-American voters are being told that Kendrick Meek should drop out.

38. How much difference will this actually make?
Grayson is a formidable fundraiser himself and a very rich man.

I think at this point in time there are candidates who likely need DCCC money much more than he does - like Grijalva in AZ.

39. His re-election war chest now contains more than $4.1 million

http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2010/10/small-donors-play-major-role.html

Also in Florida, in the state’s 8th Congressional District, freshman Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson, known for his YouTube-friendly rhetorical torrents against Republicans, was another top fund-raiser during the third quarter. He reported more than $1.1 million in receipts between July and September, with 60 percent of that amount, or $660,500, coming from small donors. His re-election war chest now contains more than $4.1 million, and the Center found that 58 percent of that sum, or $2.4 million, came from individuals giving $200 or less.

40. Following up, I discovered this:
He said here: '{A}ccording to Politico 20% of all of the outside right-wing special-interest money in the entire country has been spent against me, {and} the Executive Director of the NRCC said that I'm the Republican's Number One target in 2010.' #209, Oct. 19 live blog, 8:05 p.m.

WE HAVE TO HELP HIM, as for Dem party to do so is prohibitively expensive and makes it impossible for them to help others.
