School tells kids: Don't think pink
Gang fears stir hue and cry over color

As a fashion statement, pink is a hot color this spring, but at Merrillville High School in Indiana, it also has become a hot-button issue.

District Supt. Tony Lux distributed a letter to students Wednesday in which he "discouraged" them from wearing pink because of concerns that it has gang and rap music overtones.

Although Lux said dressing in pink could be "suspicious behavior," he emphasized the color wasn't banned.

The situation erupted Friday when Principal Mark Sperling announced over the loudspeaker that students should think twice before wearing pink clothing.

Sounds like the shit they spread around my daughter's school a few years ago about not flashing your lights at approaching cars w/o headlights because it was a "gang initiation" thing and the dark car would turn around and machine-gun you if you flashed your brights. They sent it home in letters to the parents, along with that bullshit about LSD-laced temp tats in the form of "Sorcerer Mickey"...

I swear, these cops get their shit from Focus on The Family or something...

If *I* had a kid at Merrillville, I would show up to talk to the principal not only in full HOT PINK, but I'd be doing my very BEST Christopher Lowell impression, too.
