Man behind ad urging Hispanics not to vote is a longtime GOP operative
Source: Las Vegas Sun

The force behind the commercial aiming to keep Hispanic turnout in the Nevada Senate race low is a little-known political group headed up by little-known conservative pundit Robert de Posada.

But he and his group, Latinos for Reform, have big ties to bigwigs in the Republican Party.

De Posada, a conservative strategist with the Virginia-based public affairs consulting firm Smith Fairfield, has a long history in and about the Republican Party.

From 1988 to 1992, de Posada was director of Hispanic affairs of the Republican National Committee, the GOP’s national advocacy group.

1. And the sun rises
I think Mr. Posada might find it insulting if I called him a token.

5. Shameless - A Person Who Claims To Support Hispanics Says That Hispanics Should Not Vote
You have to be amazed at the lack of shame of these groups who run ads from the left, this time urging Hispanics to send Democrats a message about their dissatisfaction by sitting out the election. That's right. President Obama is not working hard enough for Hispanics, so sit out the election, and let Sharron Angle who is campaigning on an anti-immigrant platform get elected, so that you can send the Democrats a message.

We really need to send the Republicans and corporate media a message that we will not so easily be manipulated by these fake astroturf attacks from the left or progressive side. When an alleged progressive is urging inaction, it is time to question that person's progressive credentials.

On Monday, a group called “Latinos for Reform” — an independent political organization that is not subject to disclosure rules — joined the electoral fray, with two commercials urging Hispanics to sit out the election.

The group made a name for itself during the 2008 election cycle campaigning against Obama, on the grounds that he favored blacks over Hispanics.

The leader of that group, Robert Deposada, a conservative pundit on Spanish-language Univision who once ran President George W. Bush’s commission to advance privatization of Social Security, said Hispanics should boycott the polls because Obama has not yet delivered on his campaign promise to tackle immigration reform.

“No Nevadan should be silenced or have their vote suppressed, especially those in the Hispanic community, who have been disproportionately impacted during these tough economic times,” said Luis Valera, vice president of Las Vegas’ Latin Chamber of Commerce.
