Neal, a Nashville attorney and Watergate prosecutor, died last night. He was 81. Neal, a Nashville attorney well known for both his prosecution and defense work in high profile, national cases, died after a long bout with cancer.
Over his career, he won convictions against Teamster king pin Jimmy Hoffa and high-ranking Nixon Administration officials in the Watergate scandal. They were then-U.S. Attorney General John Mitchell, counsel and assistant John Ehrlichman and chief of staff H. R. “Bob” Haldeman.
Law partner Aubrey Harwell said Neal had been diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and hospitalized at St. Thomas Hospital earlier this week. He died Thursday night.
