Plants Clean Up More Air Pollution Than Previously Thought
Source: Treehugger.com

Let's just take it as a given that plants are awesome in many practical and inherent ways and go from there: New research, led by scientists from the National Center for Atmospheric Research, shows that plants clean out air pollution to a much greater extent than previously thought. In fact, some types of trees actively consume certain types of air pollution

I thought this was a rather interesting article. Probably rather “obvious” findings, but neat to read.

If this doesn’t fit the bill for LBN please relocate.

1. I'm not surprised at all
The problem isn't that we burn coal or oil, our problem is too high a population and not enough trees. We could better conditions all around if we planted trees like crazy, but we don't. We are idiots.

Er... yes it is.

Climate Change deniers are already using this.

The article is talking about Volatile Organic Compounds, not CO2, y'know.

From Wiki:

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) refers to organic chemical compounds which have significant vapor pressures and which can affect the environment and human health. VOCs are numerous, varied, and ubiquitous. Although VOCs include both man-made and naturally occurring chemical compounds, it is the anthropogenic VOCs that are regulated, especially for indoors where concentrations can be highest. VOCs are typically not acutely toxic but have chronic effects. Because the concentrations are usually low and the symptoms slow to develop, analysis of VOCs and their effects is a demanding area.

4. If you want to help
plant trees in the tropics, check out lrff.org, it's the site for La Reserva Forest Foundation. We are always busy planting trees and could use the support, in whatever way possible. We are listed as a non-profit with a 501(c)(3)status. You can look us up or go to globalgiving.com and you can see our projects. 10 trees consume 11 tons of carbon in their lifetime. It is easy to clean the planet if we just get planting!!!
