Source: San Francisco Chronicle

(10-22) 18:58 PDT SANTA CLARA -- An F-15 fighter jet intercepted an aircraft near Santa Clara Thursday evening for a temporary flight restriction violation, according to the North American Aerospace Defense Command.

The fighter, from the 366th Fighter Squadron in Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, scrambled to intercept the aircraft at about 5:45 p.m.

The F-15 escorted the aircraft to nearby Reid-Hillview Airport in San Jose, where the plane landed without incident, according to a NORAD statement.

1. Sounds like what happened when Obama was in Seattle a couple of months ago.
A seaplane accidentally violated the air space at the north end of Lake Washington and they scrambled two jets out of Portland. The Secret Service was waiting on the dock when the seaplane landed.

5. Are you referring to the 18:58? I would have figured that that was the time
the story was posted, and unrelated to the actual event - but that's just my initial view.

9. Are you saying ROE and intercept protocols didn't change? It's
not to excuse but to inform. If you have evidence that pre-911 ROE are in effect today, post your references and let us all see them.

8. It isn't a valid comparison to judge actions 9 years ago on what
we know today.

The Rules of Engagement today are to check out just about every anomaly. On 9-11, that wasn't the security posture. Aircraft launched from Andrews hadn't even been apportioned to that mission and weren't even armed. The actual interceptors capable of CAP flew from Langley (down by Hampton, VA, not the CIA Langley).

11. It is valid to say NORAD was AWOL ...
on 9/11 --

and that prior to 9/11 intercepts were immediate -- and more than 100 every year.

15. They were not AWOL but (HQs) on duty in Colorado Springs. You
probably never have been in the NORAD CP have you? Otherwise you'd know that the pre-9-11"intercept" ROE was focused on U/I aircraft approaching the ADIZ from international airspace. But why confuse you with facts when your mind is so made up. You'll just have to let us know how you & bigfoot are doing finding the real JFK killers.

20. Intercepts are part of the record -- often, frequent -- common ---
and the record of them is undeniable --

AWOL was put on AWOL status probably by Cheney --

moved part of the fleet to the Canada -- evidently we are still expect the

"Russians are coming!" --

and part of it to Southern Sttes --

That still, however, left planes to defend us at all of our military bases --

and the "hijackers" flew over quite of a few of them .... must have all been

sleeping in late that morning!!

If you're saying there was no coup on JFK and our people's government ....

you've put a very big "bigfoot" ... in your own mouth!

13. Payne Stewart...
It has always amazed me how fast they got to his airplane, and how they couldn't scramble on 9/11.

14. Fighter jets...
Edited on Sat Oct-23-10 10:29 AM by SDuderstadt
WERE scrambled out of Otis and Langley ANG bases on 9/11. And you do realize that, not only was Stewart's plane's transponder on the entire time (making it far easier to intercept), it nonetheless took 76 minutes, right?

16. Dallas Morning News and TSA timeline says less than ten minutes...
Do you have a source for the 76 minute number?

NTSB time line has them within 8 NM six minutes after they were called, 26 minutes after last contact.

http://www.wanttoknow.info/991026dmn.orig

Last contact 9:27 a.m.
Jets scrambled 20 minutes later: 9:47 a.m.
Following at 9:52 a.m.

"Instead, according to an Air Force timeline, a series of military planes provided an emergency escort to the stricken Lear, beginning with a pair of F-16 Falcons from the Air National Guard at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., about 20 minutes after ground controllers lost contact.

An F-16 and an A-10 Warthog attack plane from Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., took up the chase a few minutes later and were trailing the Lear when it climbed abruptly from 39,000 to 44,000 feet at 9:52 a.m. CDT.

Fifteen minutes later, the F-16 intercepted the Lear, the pilot reporting no movement in the cockpit.

At 10:44 a.m., the fighters from Eglin diverted to St. Louis for fuel. Fifteen minutes later, four Air National Guard F-16s from Tulsa, Okla., took up the chase, accompanied by a KC-135 refueling tanker.

F-16s from Fargo, N.D., later scrambled to intercept the Lear jet , too. At noon Dallas time, the Fargo F-16s reported that the windows of the jet were fogged with ice and there was no evidence anyone was piloting the plane.

At 12:14, the Lear jet began to spiral. It crashed about six minutes later. "

Our guys seem to be pretty quick on the stick before 9/11 and after.
