Biden to campaign for Rep. Grayson MONDAY!

Vice President Biden will campaign for controversial Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) next week in Florida.

Biden will attend an event on Monday for the first-term Democratic lawmaker, who's made waves during his term in Congress by taking outspoken liberal stances on issues.

Biden will attend a reception on Monday for Grayson following a speech at a conference for the International Association of Chiefs of Police in Orlando.

1. Good for Joe Biden.
"controversial Alan Grayson" I guess a Democrat having a spine
makes one controversial in DC.

Again you go Joe Biden.

2. I noticed that too
Apparently, Tea-publicans are "mainstream," but a tough-talking, truth-telling Democrat is "controversial." :eyes:

3. Exactly.
I've never heard the term "controversial Mike Pense" or Sarah Palin, Michele Bachman, David Diaper Vitter, Joe "sorry B.P." Barton, Jim Demint, Joe Miller, etc., etc.

One Democrat who isn't afraid to punch republicans in the nuts when they constantly dehumanize, belittle, disrespect, lie about all Democrats and he's labeled "controversial." Our liberal media at work again!

:grr:

7. He's out of control.
Edited on Sat Oct-23-10 06:00 PM by robcon
He called a woman a "K Street Whore" called his opponent "Taliban Dan" and deceptively took quotes out of context to fraudulently misrepresent what his opponent had said.

At one time he was a hero to me. He's a fraud.

13. Because of basically one ad?
The other two are just examples of 1) (vulgar) casual language use and 2) catchy marketing.

If you don't like those I submit that you never liked Grayson's unique, candid brand of speech and would rather hear carefully molded and precise politician-speak.

16. well ...
Of course, I'd never heard of him. So I googled.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/27/grayson-calls-linda-rober_n_335447.html
Amid growing criticism from across the political spectrum, Rep. Alan Grayson said late Tuesday it was inappropriate for him to call Fed adviser Linda Robertson a "K Street whore" during an interview last month on the "Alex Jones Show," a syndicated talk radio program.

Robertson is a former top Enron lobbyist and Clinton administration adviser who was hired by Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke this summer to help with congressional relations as lawmakers are seeking more oversight of the agency. Washington's K Street is where many lobbyists have their offices.

... "I offer my sincere apology," Grayson said in a statement, just hours after his spokesman defended his comments. "I did not intend to use a term that is often, and correctly, seen as disrespectful of women."

In the radio interview, Grayson took exception to Robertson's role, saying she was not qualified to criticize such efforts.

"Here I am the only member of Congress who actually worked as an economist, and this lobbyist, this K Street whore, is trying to teach me about economics," he said.

Now, *I* find the term hugely offensive. But it's used all the time at this very website in that very context.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/forums/rules_detailed.html
While specific words are not automatically forbidden, members should avoid using racist, sexist, homophobic, or otherwise bigoted terminology. This includes gender-specific terms such as ... "whore," ... . A common exception that is permitted is the use of words like "whore" or "prostitute" in cases where public figures or the media do favors. (For example: "Fox News is whoring for the GOP again" or "Tom DeLay is a prostitute for corporate interests.")

The other struck a chord with me, as the leader of my own party, Jack Layton of the New Democratic Party of Canada, was for a while the target of chants of "Taliban Jack" from the stupidest occupants of the Conservative benches in the House of Commons because he favoured talks (see urbandictionary).

The Taliban Dan ad and commentary:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrnJB_FaDek
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd29WMuW-BU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nd8VvpZbM1Y

Gimme a break.

In my day and my parents' and grandparents' day, it was common to refer to a tinpot dictator, be it a real one or a highhanded schoolteacher, as a "little Hitler". Now we can't do that, or we'll be accused of trivializing the Holocaust.

And apparently we can't call somebody "Taliban X" because of their Neanderthal attitudes toward women and their efforts to violate women's fundamental rights, because they don't actually throw acid in women's face.

Damn we're politically correct these days. In all the incorrect ways.

Does Mr. Webster not believe that women should submit to their husbands? I think he does.

Congressman Grayson is very passionate and sincere in what he believes. I think many of us let our emotions get the better of us sometimes. To me, such outbursts show him to be very human.

But I have to admit, he's over the top sometimes. I think that's just drama to get people to pay attention. Let's face it, most Americans don't pay attention to politics. Even though there are very serious issues affecting our country, people are more interested in Fantasy Football and who is on Dancing with the Stars. So, he makes over the top statements to call attention to an issue. Die quickly? No I don't believe Republicans really want people to die quickly. However, for millions of Americans, hoping they don't get sick is exactly what they have to do since they have no health insurance. And of course, if they did get sick and required expensive treatment, they would be facing bankruptcy or death. Anyway, it's hypocritical for any one who ever claimed Health Care Reform would bring about "death panels" to profess outrage at Congressman Grayson's "die quickly" comment.
As for "Taliban Dan" - I didn't like it either. I thought that went too far. And yes, that ad used deceptive editing to misrepresent what his opponent said. But not, however, what his opponent likely believes. Grayson's opponent is a long time member of a religious organization that promotes some very conservative views on family and women. I believe the Grayson campaign thought the ad would open awareness and debate of his opponent's involvement in such an organization, as well as his beliefs. Well, it seriously backfired, because nobody is talking about these radical beliefs, they are talking about the deceptive ad. And that's a shame.

25. whore in that context was a political one that men are called constantly, and if a female candidate
did it, she deserves the same title, also, he is taliban dan, because his harsh policies he's actively PUSHED in the FL legislature are as bad as the Taliban's! Forcing a woman to stay with an abusive man by outlawing marriage is batshit crazy... thus - taliban dan. I cannot believe you are so soft on the rethugs... they are horribly anti-progressive in many races, especially this one!

Yes, Grayson's words are seeking a fight - and I'm glad he is fighting for the people, not the closed-minded "churches" and corporations like his really really slimy opponent who built a damned LOBBYIST LOUNGE BUILDING right next to his office.
