Grisly Deaths Don't Dent Upbeat Bush Message (re. Iraq)
WHITE HOUSE MEMO
Grisly Deaths Don't Dent an Upbeat Bush Message Stressing Iraq Successes
By DAVID E. SANGER

Published: April 2, 2004

WASHINGTON, April 1 — Hours after the gruesome pictures of an Iraqi mob mauling the charred corpses of four American contract workers sped around the world, President Bush swept into a huge ballroom in one of Washington's most affluent neighborhoods.

It was his final big fund-raiser, and hundreds of his supporters were gathered around $2,000-a-seat tables, picking at salads and catching up on Washington gossip.

Mr. Bush seemed all smiles. He did speak about Iraq, but not of the day's events. The White House spokesman, Scott McClellan, had denounced them on Mr. Bush's behalf as "horrific, despicable attacks."...

***
Still, it can be a bit jarring to move from the images of grisly American deaths to the invariably upbeat message of the Bush campaign — one that carefully picks its moments for mourning, and usually does so in private, not public.

The contrast with some of his predecessors is notable....

(The article reports that "when American soldiers were killed in Somalia in an incident that many recalled on seeing the Falluja photographs, President Clinton declared that he was sending reinforcements.")

1. W really lives in a world of his own...
...a world where the breadless hungry can just eat cake, a world where nobody ever dies... Maybe this is the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind?

3. haha
there he goes with the jokes again.

Yet Mr. Bush's first reference to the country was a laugh line about his opponent, Senator John Kerry.

"Someone asked Senator Kerry why he had voted against the $87 billion funding bill to help our troops in Iraq," Mr. Bush said, repeating a routine that is now a highlight of his campaign stump speech.

"And here's what he said: `I actually did vote for the $87 billion — before I voted against it.' "

Laughter swept through the room. Mr. Bush paused and said, "Clears things up, doesn't it?"

5. the killings prove that we're actually making huge progress...
Isn't that the logic?

The more Americans and Iraqis who are killed the more successful we are.

And mutilation, wow, that really shows how successful the wise Bush leadership is.

These guys really do want to push the world toward Armageddon!

6. Excellent contrast of styles between Shrub & Big Dog...
Edited on Fri Apr-02-04 08:06 AM by alg0912
When Americans die under his watch, Bush fundraises. When Americans died under Big Dog's watch, he attended the funerals and memorials.

That speaks volumes about both men, doesn't it?

And this comment REALLY pisses me off:
Charles Black, a Republican party strategist and an informal adviser to the White House, said: "You have to strike a balance here. Unfortunately, we are losing people almost every day over there," he said, noting that "amazingly, it is only 600 deaths."

ONLY 600 DEATHS?????? :grr::grr::grr::grr:

7. The spoiled fratboys, little brats .
So far into their delusionary games they dont notice the house is on fire.
I remember when my kids played little games on the floor..so caught up in their fantasies they didnt notice anything going on around them.
Sometimes when I caught them doing something wrong, they would make up stories to get themselves off the hook. I made them tell the truth, and I could always tell when they were lying.

Yep, Bush is a brat.
No one ever raised any of these people properly.

12. Guess if he doesn't talk about it, it didn't happen. Sweep it all under
the rug. Sort of the reverse of their other strategy, if you repeat it often enough it must be true. :eyes:

13. GWB : "Fallujah murders good."
According to Bush Bizarro World logic from 10/03 mentioned above,

"The more successful we are on the ground, the more these killers will react,"

-- President Bush explaining why the surge of violence in Iraq actually is a sign of American success.

"The more progress we make on the ground, the more free the Iraqis become, the more electricity is available, the more jobs are available, the more kids that are going to school, the more desperate these killers become, because they can't stand the thought of a free society."
