(Republican Mark) Kirk: Bush administration lied about Iraq
Edited on Thu Oct-28-10 09:35 AM by sabra
Source: AP

CHICAGO (AP) - Republican Mark Kirk says the Bush administration lied to him about the evidence for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

Kirk voted to invade Iraq and said he was morally certain Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.

But in a debate Wednesday, the U.S. Senate candidate said he was given false information in a briefing by the deputy director of the Central Intelligence Agency under President George W. Bush.

Kirk says he "absolutely" believes he was lied to.

Kirk faces Democrat Alexi Giannoulias (jeh-NOO'-lee-us) in a tight race for the Senate seat once held by President Barack Obama.

8. It's sad that it took so many of us TEN YEARS to figure it out...
...When all they had to do was ask you or me in the Fall of 2000. We knew.

At this point I'm pretty sure there must be thousands of die-hard Republicans out there who voted for Shrub twice, lost their homes and their savings and their jobs, and are sitting in tents right now talking about how "libruls" are ruining us. Those poor folks are never going to figure it out.

But for everyone else who does, there is the Democratic Party.

4. sending to Media Matters
they should be able to do something with this. Chances are Mark Kirk has said a lot of things you wouldn't expect to hear from someone that feels Bush lied to him.

5. Kirk desperate as early voting numbers from Chicago roll in
Edited on Thu Oct-28-10 10:00 AM by alcibiades_mystery
He sees the writing on the wall. The supposed enthusiasm gap went pfft. The early voting places in Chicago are filled to bursting, and Obama's here in Hyde Park on Saturday for a rally.

Kirk's been running like hell from the Republican label for a month and a half: internals are telling him that he has to pull Dem voters, and quite a lot of them. He pitches himself as an "independent," "the most independent," and etc. He can "work with the other side." You never hear the word "Republican" at all in his ads. It's a fucking joke.

Another candidate (for state office) refers to his opponent as "a member of the caucus that raised property taxes." Why? Because if he says Democrat, it will mark him as a Republican, and they can't do that.

It's a damn close one for Kirk and Giannoulias. Could go either way. But Kirk's recent behavior, combined with the good numbers coming out of the Dem strongholds, suggests we're at least in this thing through Tuesday night. Kirk's running scared for sure.

7. I've only been in Chicago 4 years. So I'm not sure how much weight to put on this. But it seems that
the suburbs are going for Kirk. Could that fuck things up for Giannoulias or is this the usual voting pattern of suburbs going for pukes?

13. This is the usual pattern.
The suburbs of Chicago are republican, but there has been a big demographic shift there in recent years. That is why it is important to get out the Democratic vote in all the suburbs. GOTV in Chicago, too, if you can help. They are pretty well organized, though.

I live in a very red county. I call all the Democrats in my precinct every election and remind them. Every vote counts. One year, we lost a local election by twenty-five votes. We should have won it.
