Miller's Willow hideaway missing on judicial disclosures, too

While a federal magistrate judge in Fairbanks in 2004, Alaska GOP Senate candidate Joe Miller failed to disclose his interest in a 40-acre hideaway and two-story house near Willow, in violation of federal law.

The land title registered in Palmer dates Miller's interest in the property to August 1996. Whether the property in question is owned by Miller or held by a trust in the name of his children, the candidate has refused to say. But federal judges are required to report such things either way.

The federal disclosure requires judges to sign and certify that the information in the report is complete and accurate. It warns that a judge who "willfully falsifies or fails to file this report maybe subject to criminal and civil sanctions." Mistakes on financial disclosure forms are what led to the federal trial and conviction of the late Sen. Ted Stevens.

Alaska Dispatch, earlier in the campaign for Senate, requested Miller's judicial disclosures from the Financial Disclosure Office of the United States Courts, but received them only this week -- and then only the reports for the period from January to June 2004. Miller worked as a federal magistrate from 2002 to 2004. Why reports from earlier years were not supplied is not clear.

Hrncir didn't really want to sell for the cut-rate price being offered, but he felt that he had to. And he perfectly understood the low-ball offer; business is business.

What followed wasn't, at least not by Alaska standards. The deal was made in Willow, Hrncir said, but he met Miller in Anchorage at the Denny's on Dimond Boulevard to sign the papers to close the sale. Up to that point, Hrncir said, he'd always found the Anchorage lawyer a friendly guy. That changed the second the legal documents were inked.

Hrncir told Miller he planned to go back to Caswell to get the last of the family's stuff out of the cabin, including the generator Hrncir had said all along he planned to take with him. Miller told Hrncir that he was to stay off the property.

Accustomed to an old Alaska where a man's handshake is his word, Hrncir was taken aback, but he didn't fight.

"He schemed me out of that," Hrncir said. "He pulled out a paper and said it said (sold) 'where is, as is.' Legally he was right, (but) he went from a friend to a legal counsel in a minute.... I'll admit it," Hrncir said. "He got me."

In 2008 he was disciplined for misusing the borough's computers for political purposes. In 2008, Miller lied to his employer when first confronted about his misuse of Fairbanks North Star Borough computers. He was placed on administrative leave for 15 days and suspended without pay for three days in March 2008.<33><34> Miller also entered an employee assistance program for his workplace behavior.
He believes that scientific evidence for Global warming is "dubious at best.
Miller stated at a town hall meeting that he believed the Berlin Wall was an example of a nation taking effective measures to control illegal immigration
