FBI to gunman shooting at DC-area buildings: You don't want to hurt anyone, turn yourself in

WASHINGTON (AP) — As authorities investigated a fourth nighttime shooting at a Washington-area military building, the FBI urged the unknown gunman to surrender before someone is hurt.

"We appreciate that he is struggling right now," FBI spokeswoman Katherine Schweit said Friday. "This guy hasn't hurt anybody. We don't think he wants to. We're hoping that he'll turn himself in."

Police in Virginia are investigating an overnight shooting at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, the fourth such shooting at military-related buildings in the area.

FBI Assistant Director John Perren said the shooting bears the hallmarks of shootings at the Pentagon, a Marine Corps museum and a military recruiting center, but said authorities need to conduct forensic tests to see if they are connected.

A message he's more likely to comply with is, "Just let us know you're sorry, and you won't do it again, and we'll let it go."

Of course, you can still use his letter of apology as evidence to find him and charge him.
