Suspicious Packages Seized at Philly and Newark Airports
Source: nbcphiladelphia.com

Two planes at Philadelphia International Airport and one plane at Newark Liberty Airport with "questionable shipments" are being investigated by the FBI, bomb squads and local police.

Two occupants of a UPS plane at Philadelphia International Airport have been removed from the plane on the tarmac and a bomb squad is investigating suspicious packages from the flight beginning at about 9:20 a.m. Friday.

Sources tell NBC Philadelphia that packages from a UPS flight that landed in Philadelphia from Paris have been seized from the plane and are being investigated.

Airport spokeswoman Victoria Lupica says Philadelphia police and other agencies are with the plane at a remote part of the airport. Lupica says she believes the flight is a cargo plane, and video from the airport shows emergency vehicles around a UPS jet. No inbound or outbound flights have been affected.

"Out of an abundance of caution the planes were moved to a remote location where they are being met by law enforcement officials and swept," the TSA said in a statement.

A United Parcel Service delivery truck was also being investigated in New York City's borough of Queens.

"It's a UPS truck. We're investigating what we believe is a possible explosive device on board that truck," said New York police spokesman Paul Browne.

When asked about any possible links with the investigations at Philadelphia and Newark airports, he declined to comment.

MSNBC keeps saying there's nothing to worry about while trying the crank up the old panic machine.

They all get off on stuff like this anymore.

ON EDIT: Even my local news is hopping on this because there is a major Midwest UPS hub here -- trying to ramp up the fear, although there is absolutely NO reason to think that this has spread anywhere west of Newark or Philly. They keep asking people if there's any sense of panic. No, not yet, but keep asking and you might start something.

One package contained bank records and was cleared for delivery. More interesting are the commentaries from inside Yemen. Anyone wishing to observe our collective car wreck from all four corners of the intersection would do well to check this resource.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND their programs. Especially "Listening Post" which delves into the media soup with eyes, ears and edge. For those who care about what's happening to other people in the world there's "Witness."

6. Multiple bombs on cargo planes and ups trucks
NEWARK (WABC) -- US and European authorities are attempting to thwart what appears to be an ongoing bomb plot in which more than a dozen potential bombs were shipped to the US aboard numerous air carriers, federal sources told ABC news.

The devices may have been distributed onto UPS cargo trucks in New York and possibly New Jersey.

Other potential devices have been found in London, according to ABC News. It is unknown how many if any of the suspected devices currently under investigation are live, however authorities in England have reportedly already defused one such device.

New York, Philadelphia and New Jersey authorities as well as federal authorities are attempting to track down the suspected improvised devices and bomb technicians are on the scene of the numerous suspected devices already located at banks in Queens and at other locations.

29. Yup. Also it wouldn't surprise me if this was a teabagger's work
Sounds kind of amateurish, send a bomb in a package from Yemen? But forwarding a package through Yemen is exactly the sort of thing they would do to throw the scent off. It's worth remembering that after Oklahoma City the speculation was all about middle eastern terrorists.

11. High alert in U.S. after suspicious package found in UK
Airports in some of the United States were on high alert Friday after investigators found a suspicious package on a plane in the United Kingdom the night before, a law enforcement source with detailed knowledge of the investigation said.

The suspicious package, which contained a "manipulated" toner cartridge, tested negative for explosive material, the source said, but it led to heightened inspection of arriving cargo flights in Newark, New Jersey and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and a UPS truck in New York.

Police also were investigating a suspicious package at the distribution center of an airport in East Midlands, in the United Kingdom, an airport spokesman said. Authorities said they could not immediately connect that investigation to the ones unfolding in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.

Authorities seemed most focused on inspecting cargo planes.

One box with paper, and one UPS truck suspected, that never was really there. Wires coming out of toner cartage, may have been what started this with heightened security.

25. Why UP? Curious of origination of UPS flights involved? Paris, Colgone, Germany.
So cargo flights are coming up with suspicious packages? Seems odd, wondering why, if real, UPS is being targeted?
