Breaking CNN: 2 US soldiers killed in Iraq...
Edited on Fri Apr-02-04 09:18 AM by alg0912
CNN says they were previously unreported. :(

Here's a link to two of the deaths:
AP: 1 U.S. Soldier Killed In Baghdad , Marine Killed In Anbar Province

Looking for more links (to confirm the third death)...

On edit: Changed my subject line - I can't find info for the 3rd casualty...

2. I guess they did a bit of "news management"
RUMSFELD: "My goodness, can't we spread these deaths over a few days or something?"

WOLFOWITZ: "I don't see why not."

15. They really said this? When did they do this?
I'd love a link documenting their crassness.

20. 603 - way too low a number
I know that we have very good medical facilities to treat the wounded, but you can't tell me that they have a 100% save rate. How many of those "wounded" died on the way to treatment? How many died after receiving treatment? Oh, I guess they don't count because they weren't officially KIA. What a fuckin' mess.

21. kick
No one cares about the dead soldiers in the WAR
They only care about the dead Mercenaries who lost their good paying jobs. Or DynaCorp or BilgeWater USA who lost their employees oh sorry contractors.

22. Excellent point
AMAZING that we don't get the REAL number.

The lapdog press wouldn't DARE ask that question.

What has happened to this country? Such a shame.

6. Perhaps these were the soldiers in the humvee attacked...
on Thursday outside of Fallujah. Al-jazeera was reporting witnesses said there were dead casualties while the US said three wounded.

9. I wonder if we're going to see the urban combat
that everyone was afraid of last year. If it shifts over to that, I look for all hell to break lose. I commented on the other thread before I knew it was locked, so I'll do a repost of sorts here.
I'm wondering if this thread will get the attention that the other day's gruesome news got.
603 dead, each death should be mourned, not only the ones in greater numbers or brutality.

11. I would think the Shiite are fine tuning a plan of action even as we speak
How long will they sit on the sidelines after
mini Shock and Awe?
How hard will it be for them to infiltrate and destroy
US soldiers when the entirity of the Iraqi people are supporting
them 100%?

How do we get those troops out of there before this happens?

16. Things have been getting bad in Basra
Edited on Fri Apr-02-04 10:16 AM by markses
With riots and explosions, and even an uncommon "IED" attack on a British convoy. We also saw recent riots in Najaf, another "southern" Shi'a city, and brawls with Spanish peacekeepers in that region. Wait for the day when 3 - 10 UK soldiers are killed in ambush outside Basra. Expect heavy pressure on Blair on that day.

In other words, we are seeing the gradual spread of conditions that are radicalizing populations outside the so-called "Sunni Triangle." The lid is being kept on this thing by really loose wires, and the pressure is building from inside. It doesn't look very good.

I urge everyone here to go to the local university library and read through some issues of Time magazine from, say, summer 1964 - summer 1965. I don't mean a direct analogy with Vietnam, since this war is clearly different (especially when it comes to the spontaneous organization and arming of the insurgent group, and outside support for same), but what is curious is the similarity of the "Good News Tone," the upbeat reporting about conditions. Now, certainly there was a good deal of negative reporting from early Vietnam (Sheehan, Halberstam, Arnett, etc.), but by and large the US public was provided with a rosy picture on improving conditions, much the same as the obvious nonsense now being stated about Iraq. We are an inch away from a social explosion from the Kuwaiti border to Kirkuk, and all we see are smiles and sunshine from CNN, FoxNews, et. al.

Bad scene, kids - and getting much worse. We already have 2 US KIA for 04/04, and 16 US dead over the last 10 days. Nasty business, colonialism...

13. News reports were covering desecrations while Bush was doing Kerry jokes
The Crooked One is out-to-lunch. People on TV are now talking 10 or 20 years in Iraq! They point out the US is still in Germany and Japan! And this appointed President still doesn't acknowledge troop deaths but still is out there telling jokes on the stump. Today the New York Times is reporting there are more private mercenaries in Iraq than the Brits have troops. Is this what the American people bargained for? Close up shop and get out now. The cartoon above says it all....bullseyes on soldiers backs.

17. Oh, man, are they ever in trouble..

What were they thinking, getting themselves killed when KKKarl has specifically said he doesn't want any U.S. casualties after March?

I wonder what Rove will do to their families out of revenge?
