State Democrats to show stomping incident in TV ad against Rand Paul
Source: Lexington Herald Leader

SHELBYVILLE — The Kentucky Democratic Party is featuring video of a Rand Paul supporter stomping a liberal activist in a television ad that it plans to air Friday night in Lexington and Bowling Green.

Party spokesman Matt Erwin said the ad will appear only after 10 p.m., when children are less likely to see it.

"We think it's so frightening for children that we don't want parents to have to explain why a woman is getting beat up," Erwin said.

The party hopes to make other TV buys to air the ad, but it's scheduled to run only a limited number of times in Lexington, where the incident occurred, and in Bowling Green, hometown of Republican U.S. Senate nominee Rand Paul, Erwin said.

The ad shows footage of Paul's now former Bourbon County campaign coordinator, Tim Profitt, allegedly assaulting liberal activist Lauren Valle after two men tackled her when she tried to approach Paul before a debate Monday night at Kentucky Educational Television in Lexington. Profitt was an unpaid volunteer for Paul's campaign.

The 60-second ad also displays the words "The Rand Paul Stomp," which the party says describes the effect Paul's positions on issues ranging from taxes to Medicare would have on Kentucky voters. It ends by asking for contributions to the party.

55. There are quite a few people here who routinely feel we shouldn't confront evil.
Edited on Sat Oct-30-10 08:21 AM by Tesha
This ranges from folks who are too terrified to put a bumper
sticker on their car to people who believe we shouldn't speak
up when a loud bigot in a restaurant is espousing bigotry to
people who believe we shouldn't attend anti-war rallies to
people who believe the Democrats must always "play nice"
because we're somehow the better side and if only people
could see that...

Frankly, I think these people are best equated with Jews in
Germany circa 1933 or so, and the time for timidity has
*LONG SINCE PASSED*. Timidity only gets you kicked
again by the bullies and this time, the bullies are coming
at us (or, at the very minimum, publicly speaking about
coming at us) with deadly force.

40. here's why
she was taken to the ground:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiLeud-sxrM&feature=player_embedded

When she tried to cram the moveon.org sign into Rand Paul's vehicle as he came to a stop the crowd restrained her.
Imagine the response if it had been Obama in the vehicle when she did a stunt like that?! Everyone would be calling for Secret Service heads.
Just thank god it was a sign and not a gun:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=da668XwQLuY

The guy who stomped on her has no excuse, but the other guy who took her to the ground until police arrived did the right thing given the circumstances.

The goal was a media event (presenting Paul with the Republicorp award), but this turned into a better mediabite than she ever could have hoped for.

14. The irony is common
The adults, and I'd suspect Tea Baggers alike, would teach their kids that this is bad, yet do it daily, and support it as adults. They teach their kids not to lie, yet they do. They teach their kids to 'share' with other kids, but yet their agenda is to keep everything for their own, and sharing is bad. They teach their kids not to litter, yet their agenda's basically rape the environment. It's a common human thing that I marvel at, but it's ever so abundant in Repug land.

36. Possible reason for 10PM
The 10 PM thing might be to "over do" the seriousness of it, so it seems worse than it looks. Don't get me wrong, she suffered a concussion, it was terrible and the Nazi that did it should be drawn & quartered (look it up, it's worse than CIA torture). But the average wingnut or semi-wingnut living in Amerika (land of the 24x7 repig-controlled media) might get bombarded by messages saying "she didn't die, she's fine, it was OK, she deserved it", etc.

11. That ad should be shown all day long across the country.
It sums up the Tea-Bagger movement.

Yes, all the majority are, if not prone to violence, not very well informed, and certainly not very articulate, there are good, well-meaning, sane people in the Tea-Bagger movement. (And even a few intelligenct ones -- Denninger for example.) I don't agree with everything they stand for, but there are some.

But this video represents the underlying impatience, immaturity and anger of the Tea-Baggers

Why not show this all day? Why shouldn't parents have to explain the ad to their children?

If you could go back to Germany in 1938 and show the ordinary people who lived there a video of the crimes that were inflicted on the Jewish People on Kristallnacht, show it 24 hours a day, call them to respond with human compassion, wouldn't you do it?

Well that Rand Paul stomp was akin to the acts of the NAZIs on Kristallnacht. The people of Kentucky, all Americans, need to be shown just how ready the extreme right is to use terror and violence against those they don't like.

Did the Jews in Germany "ask for it"? I assure you that is how the NAZI attacks were rationalized. We need to go the American people and ask them for help.

Above all, yes, this should be shown to our children. It should be shown in our classrooms, and then the teacher should explain that we are a democracy. We vote with our ballots, not with boots to the heads of our opponents.

And don't call me out for the comparison to the NAZIs. If you prefer a comparison to the Red Guard in China or the events in the Soviet Union, be my guest. I just happen to know a lot more about the NAZIs than I do about those other brutal regimes.

I am glad to see that the Democratic Party here is getting right to the truth. I might have to make myself stay up tonight and hope to see it.

If we don't make it clear that we are sick of this right wing violence, people getting stompped into the ground for their views could become a way of life in the so-called "land of the free".

20. You Can't Stomp On Me

ou can't stomp on us! http://pol.moveon.org/cantstomp/photos.html

Last Monday night outside a senatorial debate in Kentucky, 23-year-old Lauren Valle was thrown to the ground and, while she was pinned, a man intentionally stomped on her head, leaving Lauren with a concussion. The next day the Paul campaign worker who stomped on Lauren's head demanded she apologize, saying "she instigated it!"

In 2010, in America, women deserve better than to be assaulted and then blamed for it.

In 2010, in America, engaging in political protest is not an invite for a beating.

MoveOn, Progressive Change Campaign Committee, and CREDO sent out a call for people everywhere to join us in saying to Rand Paul, the Tea Party and anyone inflicting violence against us: "If you stomp on me, 1,000 more will take my place."

The response has been overwhelming. Look at the pictures here and add your own. Together, we can stop the violence.

who was basically taking up for the incident. I haven't been able to find the thread so it was probably taken off (if they do that) and I'm hoping the guy was TS. This video should be shown all the time as it's an illustration if the true nature of the Teabaggers. I mean really, three grown men beating up a petite young women? WTF????????????????? Not to mention the fact that Rand Paul didn't come out in full force denouncing this behavior.

54. no, I think that parents should explain exactly why a woman is getting stomped
and why it is so repugnant to a so-called "civilized, judeo-xtian society" to
tolerate men hitting women.

There can never be toleration for assault and false imprisonment, which is the
criminal name for what these thugs did.

Part of the problem is that no one took Tim Proffitt and his partners in crime
aside as children and made that plain to them, that much is evident. He is an
abuser and he's used to doing this--hence his not employing any restraint or
xtian shame for allowing himself to be seen acting like this in public, let alone
captured for all posterity with the asterisk behind his name FOR.EVER.

Rand Paul pals around with woman-beaters.
