ALBANY -- Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Cuomo vowed Saturday to unify New Yorkers if he's elected Tuesday, saying his opponent has sought to divide the state by preying on people's fear and anger.
Republican opponent Carl Paladino, meanwhile, continued his message that Cuomo is an Albany insider who can't improve the capital. Both candidates crisscrossed the state Saturday in a final appeal before Election Day, which is Tuesday. Polls will open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m.
A Marist College poll on Saturday showed Cuomo with a 56 percent to 37 percent lead over Paladino, consistent with other polls in recent weeks. Cuomo led in every part of the state, the poll found, including a two percentage point lead in upstate. The poll of 805 registered voters was conducted on Oct. 26 through Oct. 28 and had a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
Paladino has dismissed the polls, saying the same surveys didn't show him winning the Republican primary last month either. He easily beat Republican foe Rick Lazio.
