O'Donnell Campaign Confirms Payment to Candidate's Mother

Confirmed: Christine O'Donnell's campaign indeed paid out $3,500 to the candidate's mother, New Jersey resident Carole O'Donnell.

A spokesman for the O'Donnell campaign told CNN that "Carole O'Donnell, Christine's mother, did receive money for her services rendered on accounting and the FEC reporting for the campaign before the treasurer came onto the campaign."


Requests from The Daily Beast for additional information regarding the nature of the tasks performed and Carole O'Donnell's qualifications to perform them have gone unreturned since Beltway Beast first broke the news yesterday that the O'Donnell campaign had issued the payments.

O'Donnell's campaign finance issues are quickly piling up. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a nonprofit that spotlights corruption in politics, released a statement today calling on the Delaware Attorney General to investigate O'Donnell's use of campaign funds to pay for personal utility bills and rent. O'Donnell has told reporters her rent is partially paid by the campaign because her home, which she shares with a campaign staffer, doubles as a campaign office

Thus, it is okay to demand the resignation of Eliot Spitzer for cavorting with prostitutes, but it is also okay to allow David Vitter to be re-elected.

It is okay for Bristol Palin to have an out-of-wedlock child and still be a good family-values goooper, but if Chelsea Clinton or Amy Carter or a Kennedy had done that, they'd have been branded a whore.
