Democratic office target of crimes (Break-in at AZ Dem Headquarters)
Hard drive stolen; window smashed

Emily Bittner
The Arizona Republic
Apr. 2, 2004 12:00 AM

SCOTTSDALE - Scottsdale Democratic Party officials feel targeted after a computer hard drive with donors' information and mailing list was stolen last month and the office was vandalized Wednesday.

"The fact that we've had two in the last three weeks is very, very suspicious," said Leon Chusid, District 8 treasurer, headquartered at 8350 E. McDonald Drive. "And it's also very terrifying."

The only thing taken in the first incident was a computer's hard drive with information about precinct committee members, mailing lists and fund-raising.

3. Liddy? Last seen....

Sorry. Catwoman posted this yesterday, and I still can't get the horror of it out of my mind...

Is there any connection to the Presidential election with the AZ Dems? (other than just winning Arizona) If not, I'd guess the perpetrators to be local AZ Republicans.

8. It was probably a terrorism investigation
You know, under the PATRIOT act, people who act in a way intended to change gov't policy could be terrorists. Theoretically, that's only if they do something illegal while trying to change gov't policy, but hey, how can we know unless we look, right?

Ok, I'm kinda like kidding - but not really. Under the US definition of terrorism, being at a peace march where a window gets broken makes you a terrorist. And in that case, under the "material support" clause, anybody who helps you in any way - lends you a quarter for the phone, lets you crash on their couch, lets you use their cell phone - can be investigated with the FBI/CIA's brand-spankin' new powers for secret surveillance and warrantless searches. While they've not YET applied this to Democrats, they certainly COULD. Hell, they could apply it to the ACLU (and thus, under the same "material support" clause, to their donors/members) for filing a lawsuit against the policy of detaining people without charges or access to a lawyer. The ACLU doesn't have to have done anything illegal, as long as even one of the people they're trying to help has done something illegal - meaning THEY (the ACLU) are providing "material support," which means anybody who's a member or a donor is.

:grr:

13. G. Gordon was on Al Franken's show today
Franken and Liddy are friends. Al just calls him G. They were both taking swipes at Bill O'Reilly for being a big wuss. Franken knows a lot of people. Al did mention that Liddy is a convicted felon and the Liddy would be the first to admit that. So no one is trying to gloss over his crimes. I think Liddy has moved on. For this crime the new thugs and crooks are in the WH. Karl Rove and Tom DeLay and his minions are training a new batch of criminals every year.

19. "no signs of forced entry in the burglary," ???
:wtf:

(snip)
On Thursday morning, volunteers discovered that the office's window at the reception area was broken overnight with a rock.

The rock appeared to be from a statue in the office complex. The vandal would have had to bypass three other offices to hit the Democrats' headquarters, Chusid said.
(snip)

I'm I the only one who sees a problem here?

It's after Archibald, aka 'Harry', HVAC engineer extrordinaire.

On edit:

I wanted to add, I wouldn't even take this to mean that McCain would be likely to jump parties. I don't really think he is.

The Bush clan is so paranoid, they would go nuts suspecting McCain would switch camps, even when he'd not be likely to. I could see them taking a stupid and illegal action like this with only the most paranoid of suspicions. Kind of Nixonian, actually.
