Democratic Rep. Jim Costa has narrowly won enough votes to retain his Central Valley seat in a district where Democrats hold a 20-point registration advantage.

The Associated Press on Tuesday declared Costa the winner in the 20th Congressional District over Republican Andy Vidak, a farmer running for his first political office. With just a small number of ballots outstanding three weeks after Election Day, Costa had a lead of 3,031 votes over Vidak, 51.7 percent to 48.2 percent.

Costa was first elected in 2004 after serving in the state Senate and Assembly. He ran unopposed in 2006 and in 2008 received nearly 75 percent of the vote.

The only other California congressional race to remain uncalled is in the 11th District, where Democratic incumbent Jerry McNerney faces Republican David Harmer.

2. Congrats Costa. Good job!
We should jump up and down, call the press, make it today's headline and say "the people have spoken" and call it a "referendum" and all that other stuff Pubs say when they eek out a seat.

:sarcasm:

3. Yup, good to see some close ones break our way...
Finally tally is going to be 242 (R) to 193 (D).

The Republicans picked up 63 House seats, but we did manage to pull out some very close ones in the end.

On election eve it was actually looking potentially worse, and we managed to really hold down our losses in the Senate (mostly because they nominated some real goofballs like O'Donnell and Angle).

8. I agree. They underperformed.
Before the election there was talk of them winning 75 to 100 seats, and possibly the Senate too.

5. "narrowly won where we have a 20 point registration advantage".
That is a disgarce. Recent studies have shown the young voters didn't vote. What the hell kind of GOTV did we have? And what thre hell good does it do to turn out for thr Presidency and NOT vote for Congress or your local elections? I would rather lose the Presidency and keep the House and Senate. We obviously have a lot of low information voters who really do not care about the government.Perhaps they will now be made to care when they see a President with no Congress.

6. "I would rather lose the Presidency and keep the House and Senate."
Of course you would, especially considering how you feel about the President.

7. The Legislative Branch should be more important to government.
That is the way the framers intended it. The Bush and Reagan Admins focused on a unitary executive and that was bad for this nation. That is what I meant by my statement. Just what can any president do, other than veto if he has no support? This Prresident had a majority and only was incremental. I will support whoever is the Drem noiminee but our concentration really needs to be on reclaiming the majority. JMHO. And I am afraid people will not even bother to vote down ticket the way many did in my state.

9. You hate Obama. You always have. It's no secret.
Make all the excuses you want, I know you didn't vote for him in 2008.
