US prison guards allegedly watch brutal inmate beating
CCTV appears to show a Muslim prisoner being beaten by a fellow inmate as US prison guards allegedly look on.

Surveillance footage from the overhead cameras shows 24-year-old prisoner, Hanni Elabed, being beaten by a fellow inmate, James Haver, at the privately run Idaho Correctional Centre in January 2010.

Elabed at one point appears to bang on a prison guard station window to plead for help, but no one intervenes and he is knocked unconscious.

Haver then sits down to rest before he resumes beating Elabed again.

It is alleged that at least three guards watched as Elabed was assaulted, only handcuffing Haver after he had chosen to stop beating him.

As a result of the attack Elabed, who was originally sentenced to two to 12 years for robbery, suffered cranial bleeding and spent three days in a coma.

An FBI investigation has been launched at a privately-run US jail after guards allegedly stood by and watched a prisoner get beaten unconscious.

Surveillance footage from Idaho Correctional Centre, shows Hanni Elabed being punched and stamped on by a fellow inmate while three guards appear to look on.

The 24-year-old victim suffered brain damage and short term memory loss in the attack earlier this year.

Also known as ‘Gladiator School’ because of its high rate of inmate on inmate violence, the FBI probe is investigating whether prisoner human rights were breached.

2. While I am sure some

prison guards have the job for the benefits and paycheck, there are, from my experience, a vast number who hold the job as prison guard based on either a sadistic bent or a desire to engage criminals all day. Who in their right mind could actually like being locked up with the vermin of society every day for a living?

I know roughly ten Federal Bureau of Prisons guards. All are professional, none are "sadistic in bent", or "desire to engage criminals".
Only one of us actually knows what they are talking about, and it ain't you.

6. A disgrace, indeed. But you can't blame it on union busting.

I support trade unions and I belong to one, but they are not a cure for violence by prison guards, who permit inmate violence whether they are unionized or not.
